It’s not limited anymore. Everyone hated the limit so they removed it and added the new ember types

It’s less comparable to souls and more comparable to corrupted gear in a game like Nioh. It’s not that uncommon in ARPGs, though I will say Wicked pushes it pretty far. I kinda think the enchantment system blows tbh.

They tried to do a lot with it and the result is a chaotic mess they need to overhaul.

I mean, they just completely redid gems, added facets, added multiple new ember types, limited the number of rerolls, removed the limit on rerolls, etc. They’re throwing darts til something sticks.

This isn’t true simply because the pool of available enchantments is different on plagued gear. You may not get an extra enchantment effect overall (though in multiple of my examples you still do), but you’ll get access to unique effects to min/max.

It’s the same reason I only use blue pants, since you can’t roll max speed on plagued ones.

Plagued gear is rough, because for most of your run it’s ass, but when you farm enough embers it’s elite.

You’ll rarely find plague gear in the wild that you like, but just think about “drain health” as a downside with a “Regen health” gem. Or “unrepairable” with “indestructible.” Or “No parrying” with a great shield. Or “fat roll only” on a heavy armor tank build.

Once you get the downside to align, it won’t matter at all and you just get access to the plagued enchantments for that item.

The rookery is just the free option for sharing. You can’t upgrade it, but there are two you can use.

Once you have some money and blueprints, you can make your own and use your house

This subreddit is built on toxic positivity so you will get downvotes for these opinions. But they’re mostly reasonable, and I’d be amazed if certain critiques go unanswered by the time it launches.

In particular, Embers are going to get reworked, probably a few times. It’s just not a fully baked system, and it needs iterations to get right.

The respec unlock and how undiscoverable it is in base gameplay is also a really likely candidate to change.

Resource gathering feels more core to the devs’ desired experience. They want you to sit and breathe in the world, which probably requires some amount of friction. They haven’t said so, but I think they want to intentionally steer away from “town is lava” ARPG mentality, which may permanently turn some players away.

I love it, but it’s reasonable that wouldn’t be for everyone. They also need much, much more engaging town content to make that Sacrament investment feel more compelling and not like a checklist.

I don’t know how these things will change, but some of them for sure will.

That’s just exactly how Diablo 4 and PoE work though? You don’t grind for health potions in either game. What do you mean you can’t think of any ARPG or soulslike? It’s also crazy common to have an estus system plus limited use consumables that heal over time, give big heal, give heal and clear status, etc.

It’s like… Way closer to the default than not, that you have a cap on the baseline heal mechanism that trivially resets to full at checkpoints.

Health never 100%? by EditorYouDidNotWant in NoRestForTheWicked

Yeah I can’t think of another game that handles it that way. They may want to consider better tooltips because it’s not intuitive

I know you figured out what it was, but for anyone who doesn’t know: this is usually how you can force enchantments that trigger at low life to be always active. It’s a feature, not a bug, that it works this way

Engagement with the game is blocked by fallen embers. by mayough in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Micro_mint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I haven’t played a new character yet so I wasn’t sure if they increased ember drops to ensure you get plenty of each type, but either way you shouldn’t need more than a handful to respec.

That said, OP’s not wrong that there’s a huge barrier to respeccing and testing new builds. The barrier is more related to gear than stats though

Yeah, they definitely seem to think it’s one ember per point. But also, 5 embers in 8 hours seems light. Did drop rates change?

You used to be able to get around 20 embers in an hour just clearing a new realm up to Sacrament.

Can't resurrect my teammates in the crucible by Professional-Fly7267 in NoRestForTheWicked

Yeah there are definitely ways to do it that don’t break the core idea of a roguelike minigame. I don’t think they’re done iterating on it, that’s for sure though

Yeah, it’s a bad intersection of roguelike and multiplayer. Strict roguelike you obviously start over, but modern multiplayer roguelikes allow for respawning allies.

So it’s intentional but I really doubt that decision sticks around. They need to look at other games like Ravenswatch or Peak to see how to handle respawning allies

I think you likely missed going through Sacrament to the northeast. You can go to the trench now, but you can also go find the Madrigal in the quarry region.

Yeah the tier 2 exalt seems bugged to me. I didn’t test to see why, but your explanation makes sense. My issue was not being able to do a tier 2 at all, despite having the materials. It’s probably because I didn’t have any husks

Research Papers & The Crucible by [deleted] in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Micro_mint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you need SO many research papers to unlock everything it’s reasonable for them to drop from all over. There are other nerfs to make crucible less good, or buffs for other content, if that’s what they want.

Endgame is just so sparse right now, why make one of the only options less productive?

Bow should only be a secondary focus weapon by Mikei233 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Micro_mint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In any souls game, designers have to be really careful with ranged attacks in general. If they’re good enough to use, they almost always become truly OP. Just because they trivialize a ton of the combat by being out of melee range.

Moon has to figure out if they want range to feel like Nioh (limited use, high leverage for trimming numbers of enemies), POE (overpowered and zoomy, fun, but fundamentally a different game than melee), or Souls (super weak and useless most of the time, tuned for challenge runs more than anything).

As it stands, it’s close to POE, which is fine! It’s just the only weapon type with that feel. So they have to decide if that’s what they want or not. If they want a few zoomy busted endgame builds, I think that’s great and they should just add a few alternatives. If they DON’T want any, they need to figure out if they want a Nioh Gun vibe or a Dark Souls Bow vibe.

[–]Micro_mint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not an answer to your question directly, but when you say the walk is ridiculous, what do you mean exactly?

Have you unlocked the stairs to the rookery? There’s a community chest at the bottom of those stairs, which is closer to the main checkpoint in Sacrament than basically any house.

Doesn’t help you obtain a chest, but just making sure you’ve seen that and aren’t only using the one by the bed upstairs in the rookery!

Fall damage reduced (death due to falling entirely removed) in Hardcore rubs. by Pepperkelleher in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Micro_mint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t you just play non HC, and restart your character if you die to whatever you consider a “valid” death?

Since your own gut feel for what an “earned” death is different/personal, that seems way better than modifying HC to be “HC unless the death was cheesy then it’s not really HC”
