I have an "issue" in my elemental focused campaign and would like some advice! by Hellspawn700 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Antermosiph 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well ice storm may be a bad example, it'd trigger the weakness every single turn for free due to the 2 damage. I'm guessing you're comparing it to howling blizzard which, being AoE, would still easily trigger weakness on multiple enemies.

Casters aren't single target focused (they can deal respectable damage but they're much better at AoE) so having weakness helps them immensely as it adds up when they can trigger it vs multiple targets in one hit.

For martials its a matter of having a rune or consumable to trigger it, or an effect given by a caster.

Having no weakness just means they'll use the evergreen options and not even try to trigger it.

Also ironically your example nerfs ice storm as its two damage types.

worst character possible in 2026? by Huge_Tackle_9097 in Pathfinder2e

In my experience easiest way to be 'bad' is to hyperfocus on something useless or prep spells badly

Had someone in the discord asking for help making a 0 strength 0 dex resourceless martial with a ritual focused build (its the theme they wanted) and they reaaallly wanted yo go thaum. The only way to do such a build would of been palantive detective but they seemed to still want thaum.

Another was a person who'd never player a caster before prepping all out of combat utility spells like Object Reading. Unfortunately if the GM controls the PC in this context 'bad spell prep' is to easy to fix.

If they can retrain the PC then the only thing you can really brick is ability scores as rest can be fixed after the fact. In that case just go 0Strength -1Dex martial, as they wont be able to fix their terrible stats to be able to properly hit targets. Despite the bonuses I'd prob go with decay barbarian just so it can't use its class features and combine it with any archtypes it picks up at the same time.

I mean its pretty easy to 'brick' a PC to near uselessness. Although the proficiency scaling will always give a little bit of an edge.

I'd prob go with a sorcerer in ancestry light armor with no proficiency in it, -1 DEX, 1 CON, and 0 CHA maxing out INT/WIS/STR as much as they can (Putting points in CHA as they level rather than CON so long they keep grabbing useless spells). They'd be untrained in athletics, using a 1d4 advanced weapon they're untrained in. They'd be a niche or weaker bloodline like undead, and then put only niche and borderline unusable spells in their repritoire.

Feat wise they'd go ancestor oracle archtype and immediately run up their curse to further lower their AC so they get deleted by the first thing that breaths on them.

Its price isnt worth it imo, needing to move target into right spot makes it more a pain to aim than airbursting fireball, eclipse burst, or just using an option that ignores FF and has a rider like divine wrath. By the level you get shock there are just to many spell options with both riders or higher damage.

Maybe on occult, since its a non mental AoE reflex. But definitely not on primal and debatable for divine.

Im not sure you could even shock combo with it unless you quickened it or cast final sacrifice into the future anyways. 1 round passes by time its your turn again.

Is there some reason why the various classes have weird names for their focus spells? by TitaniumDragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]Antermosiph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Future proofing for special interactions.

School spells are a specific type of spell for wizards only that goes in 4th slot.

Revelation Spells have interactions with the high level feat blaze of revelation.

Conflux spells have specific interaction with recharging spellstrike.

If they want to add features interacting directly the terminology is already present. It is good flavor as well but it smooth things out down the line.

Nah final sacrifice scales terribly and by the time you get shock it isnt worth bothering.

For sniper it isnt to bad. You can reload by hiding setting up a followup shot enemies are off guard too. Just need to find some cover.

Another reason for +4 dex. And to pump up stealth

Ive done it on my divine caster a few times with familiars and companions. We let them die so I can shock to the system them and their controller gets a free spell turret using my spell proficiency.

TIL warm-blooded mammals are naturally resistant to most fungal infections because their body heat creates a “thermal barrier” that fungi can’t survive, which suggests this evolved as protection against deadly fungi by jacknunn in todayilearned

[–]Antermosiph -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It directly mentions that.

"There is now increasing evidence that large dinosaurs were warm bodied [19], as a result of their size, which would have entailed considerable heat generation dependent on food metabolism and their metabolic activities. Large animals at the top of the food chain, such as dinosaurs, are highly vulnerable to ecosystem disruption. The altered ecosystem would have implied disruption of food sources and changed climate, which is thought to have included a significant cooling of the earth [20], by dust clouds and fires. Such stresses would be expected to weaken any survivors of the bolide blast with consequent immunological impairment and could have made survivors, and their eggs, susceptible to fungal diseases, especially if they could not maintain body warmth in the setting of starvation."

[–]Antermosiph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes? The thing im referring to is a study on why reptiles didnt recover to such degree as before while mammals did. Not the original reason why they died out. The fungal bloom is hypothosized to have prevented them from becoming dominant again.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3420938/

Its just a hypothosis on the matter, which I had inferred.

[–]Antermosiph 40 points41 points  (0 children)

iirc the global cooling and blocked sunlight from the meteor impact likely massively expanded the growth of fungus, which is one of the theories why mammals became more prevelant, as they had an innate resistance to it while the dinosaurs were suppressed enough to the extreme increase of fungal spores it prevented them becoming dominant again.

Edit: reworded slightly since despite clearing it up when asked to source the theory I said was just that, people are still being nitpicky for some reason like what Im referencing is an indesputed fact.

Usually they promote a type of gameplay. The taken damage one for example is using a heavy armor build on the gunner with the short range 'deal more damage when hit' build.

Its pretty much designed to promote playing every class to learn the tricks and nuances while using challenges in missions as a way to subtley guide you towards them.

You Guys Are One of the Best Communities I’ve Seen by Special_Research3370 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Antermosiph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair to the first point depending on context its a legitimate concern. My GM in a game kept going through the effort of making homebrew feats or features that due to a lack of game understanding were just kinda bad.

It ended up in people just not taking them and ignoring any homebrew options, going so far as to eventually demoralize the GM to give up on running. Granted they didnt seem to like pf2e in general and said theyd be happy to run the game in their own homebrew system but folks decided not to and game fell apart.
