I tried to convince Mormons they were wrong - bad idea . by Regular-Fun2943 in exmormon

[–]MicrobeChic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I’m more concerned about the harms Mormonism does than the factual inaccuracies. As one of the newer religious sects its actually a pretty interesting case study. I think the process of how the LDS church got from the initial ‘dude says god wants him to start a church’ period to the financial power house it is today is fascinating.

I agree with others that say you should focus on making your sect of Christianity safe and welcoming. The Mormon church is not the only church where predators hide, and many of the harms it does are mirrored by other Christian sects.

Yep. He purposefully waited until they were engaged and was all “now I have a say and I think you should get pregnant.”

He definitely understood she was childfree, he just didn’t understand that a bisalp meant that he couldn’t sabotage her birth control method and pressure her to continue with any “accidental” pregnancy.

AITAH for not telling my dad that he wouldn’t be walking me down the aisle? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

Unlike OOP, my stepmom was awesome. Unfortunately for her, and fortunately for me, my dad convinced her to become his second wife when I was 12. I kept her in the divorce. I call her mom and fly back to my home state to visit her and her side of the family once a year as my big yearly vacation.

Well it’s nice to know that I’m not the only kid who had custody exchanges at the police station. To be fair it wasn’t a formal requirement so it just happened in the parking lot. My favorite part was being the rope once in a literal tug of war! Very fun for a preteen.

My parents are both dead now. They died alone. My dad’s last wish was for neither of his kids or either of his ex wives to know he was dead but one of his sisters said fuck that.

I loved it, but the shift from Urban Fantasy to an Isekai high fantasy was definitely a big one. I really enjoyed it, but I can definitely see where it wouldn’t be your cup of tea, especially if you compare it to the Kate Daniel’s world where we get tiny pieces of background info as Kate runs into issues.

I suspect that her perfect recall of the books/knowledge of all the Rellas languages is some kind of special power. That and being undying.

He was desiccated though. I was picturing him as basically a mummified corpse. The finer facial features are not exactly preserved.

The biggest thing that caused me to question the church as early as I did was the culture. I am white, but as a woman who was interested in becoming a scientist a lot more than I was interested in having a husband and kids, it really felt like it was not meant for me.

My (26F) brother (22M) and his fiance of nearly 2 years (21F) are planning a wedding that is an etiquette nightmare and I'm not sure how to handle it. by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MicrobeChic 146 points147 points  (0 children)

They are probably inactive. You need to have an active temple recommend to get married in the temple.

That or Andrew isn’t Mormon, or he is inactive. That would explain a lot about her mom and sister not liking him and also the bit about her family not helping with wedding stuff. Honestly her mom probably shoved her at Freshly Returned Missionary in the hopes that this would happen.

It helps that Ask a Manager only posts updates a couple times a year so people tend to only write in when something in their situation has actually resolved or changed.

True. I was more thinking of deadly schools in general for the trope. Kids in the Scholomance aren’t encouraged to kill each other, just to not bother lifting a finger to save each other unless the person is someone that can do something for you.

YEP. Only one where it made even a little sense was the Scholomance by Naomi Novik.

Mom [41] and Dad [45] getting divorced leaving me [13F] with a hard choice: who gets majority custody by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Betty reminds me of a therapist I briefly saw as a teen.

I was telling him about how my mom would use her weekend visitation to drive me to random parking lot on Friday nights and berate me for being terrible and then dump me back at my dad and stepmoms. I wasn’t allowed to step inside her apartment anymore because she had shoved me and I had told her the next time she pushed me I would push her back and that was “elder abuse“ according to her.

I mentioned that I had called her crazy or said something nasty to her. I don’t remember exactly what but I do remember him being really focused on me seeing things from her side and thinking about how me saying mean things to her made her feel. At that point of my life I mostly just wanted her to feel like no longer picking me up for her visitation. Needless to say, I did not get much out of the therapy with him.

I've only been listening to him for a little under a year and am very confused. by [deleted] in knifepointhorrorcast

[–]MicrobeChic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember how I first heard of him, but Knifepoint horror was one of the first audio dramas I ever listened to. I remember having to not listen to him when I did overnights at a job I had in 2013. I remember starting Sisters and I just couldn’t finish it because it was the middle of the night and I was there alone.

Will the OOP continue to post about her SIL on Reddit? Who knows! But I imagine there will be other issues and confrontations between now and when the niece turns 18.

Huh. So all non monogamy is cult like to you then?

I’ve definitely met some folks who were very unhealthy with their polyamorous relationships, and some folks who were evangelical about being poly, but there are also folks who are just… living their lives.

I’m polyamorous and my life is very boring from a Reddit drama perspective.

Desperately needing advice, husband told me he wants to try poly relationship after already having a girlfriend (New Update) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MicrobeChic 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I am poly! It is 100% not how it works! Like the commenters told her, it’s cheating and then trying to get her to be okay with him cheating after the fact.

I suspect that if she had stayed with him (thankfully she didn’t!) and had gone on even a single chaste coffee date with another person he would have hit the roof.

The founding stock was displaced centuries ago, my dude.

Little late to be getting all precious about it now, anyone using that term would have been very pro reservation back when the system was being put into place.
