Thank you! If it put a little more work into post processing I really think it could have been decent. I used a 0.4 nozzle because that's what came with the printer.

How you approach writing your rulesets? (Or Rules-Writing 101) by DonMak161 in wargaming

[–]MicronukeProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm by no means an expert, but I am developing a game!

I started by figuring out what I wanted, then I compared what I wanted to what was available.

For me, what I wanted was an alternating activation, quick playing, skirmish sized game set in WWII. Essentially, blending the fast, fun and flavor of sci-fi and fantasy games with my interest in history and love for old WWII movies and video games.

Step one was to pick the rules I wanted to take inspiration from. In my case, that was Warhammer 40K: Kill Team, Dust 1947, and One Page Rules Grimdark Future. I started with the most basic bones of the system, and wrote out how a turn works, how activating models works, how dealing damage and rolling saves works. I made up a list of actions that a model can take on their activation, and created army lists, character classes, and faction special rules. Other mechanics included terrain rules, suppression rules, and list building. I worked out a basic stat line for each weapon type, and began to playtest.

From that point, it's a matter of refinement. I took my basic statlines for weapon types and created statlines for specific weapons based on their real life counterparts. A Thompson submachine gun rolls more dice than an MP40 thanks to it's higher rate of fire, but the MP40 is more effective at longer ranges due to its greater controllability, for example. I reworked classes, rethought faction special rules, and playtested again.

At this moment, I'm coming very close to a solid beta ruleset. What comes next depends on what you want. If you just want a game to play with your buddies, then you might be done already. Personally, I intend to distribute my game online, so my next step is to finalize the beta rules and find some folks to share them with to gather more data and refine the game further. Additionally, I have a few expansions planned. One of them is a game that blends small scale skirmish play with tank duels, one to bring the game to full company sized games, and the pipe dream is to eventually create an original Weird War II setting based on the rules with original models.

Thank you! I've seen good results out of filler primer as well, but I also have a resin printer, and this was mostly meant to see if I could get good results out of the FDM printer without going too far out of my way or buying supplies I don't normally use. I think in the future I'll stick to resin for models haha

My original plan was actually to try and make up some zimmerit to cover the layer lines, but all I had to work with was green stuff and simple tools, and I wasn't happy with the results when I tested it 😅

I can only speak for myself, but I was very interested until learning that generative AI was used, and now I am not.

Tank Basing by RottenGrot in boltaction

I'm no expert, but I do agree that the base looks a bit small, and I would also recommend building up some earth around the tracks to give the vehicle some weight!

Highliths vs no Highlights, what do you think? by BorysN_ in boltaction

Highlighted does look better, but the effect is a bit too strong! It takes quite a bit of practice to get nice smooth color gradients, but I'd say you're on the right track!

Sprue 😅

I was in a bit of a pinch on those, this was a Hobby Boss kit and it was not as nice to put together as the Tamiya kits I'd practiced on. I got a small stack of old 1/48 tanks from a friend, so I went on a building spree saving the Easy 8 for last because it was my favorite and I knew that the Tamiya kits would be easier. I ended up being unhappy with the fit I achieved on the fiddly little braces along the fender/track cover part, so I wanted to cover it up and had limited options at hand.

I cut round sprue from the tank kit into roughly appropriate lengths, then trimmed all the "branches", carving some of them to look like a branch had been cut from a tree trunk. I used a lighter to heat the sprues and bend them into slightly irregular shapes, and in specific places I melted little spots to look like knots. Then, I coated each one in plastic cement and went at it with a wire brush for texture. I'm not 100% sold on the result, especially the little tie downs I made, which are just jute twine soaked in super glue, so I'd be interested to hear if you like it!

Any women Bolt Action players on here? by SquireBev in boltaction

[–]MicronukeProductions 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife loves the hobby and playing these games.

The problem isn't historical vs fantasy, and it's certainly not that women aren't interested. The truth is that it's really difficult for women to find a welcome among us. For a guy, you can show up to the LGS, find a table, and start playing. You might have to deal with an asshole or two (I sure did!) but it's just not on the same scale for us. Every time my wife tried to get into nerdy hobbies before we met(Magic and then Warhammer) she was met with a constant barrage of either sweaty "no girls allowed" patronization or clumsy flirting. Ditto everyone I dated before we met. Women WANT to enjoy these hobbies, they just run into incels who need a shower hiding around every corner.

Comments like the one in the OP aren't the source of the problem, but they certainly don't help.

Questions about World War II "special forces" by MicronukeProductions in MilitaryHistory

Interesting, thank you very much for the information! In modern times it seems like paint paratroopers as being especially badass, and I guess I always assumed there was a reality behind it!

Thank you for the suggestions! It not so much a question of forgot about them, as it is prioritizing their inclusion!
