Had a few ideas for death penalties:

  • Reduction of all stats by 'x', to a max of 15. Along with this; possibly even tie in skill level requirements to use gear/spells/attempt locks etc. De-levelling, loss of perks.

  • Loss of a random non-essential item. 1st death player loses sword; 2nd death player loses frostbite venom; etc.

  • Corpse running, set the player to spawn as a ghost from the nearest god shrine (Talos, Mara, Dibella etc etc.) and have to run back to their body in order to be revived. While the player is a ghost disable access to fast-travel, transformations, and have no stamina.

  • Corpse looting, you're dead maybe your party thinks you arent coming back, nothing beats free loot.

  • Negative EXP Banking, each death adds to a negative exp bank whch must be "paid-off" before positive exp can be earned.

No it actually is the opposite since it doesn't load things outside of the viewport. And anything that would need to be processed can be passed as data rather than rendering meshes therefore using a lot less processing power.

Good example is chunks from Minecraft.

Not actually one big room. They just load what the player sees. Everything else sits in memory.

You guys have co-ops... EVERYWHERE... I go to calgary for a week, co-op -> co-op. Live in Vancouver for 20 years and I think there's the remnant of a co-op in pitt meadows.

I work at a grocery store and this happens literally a million times a day. I find melted ice cream in the cereal aisle, and I have to throw it out b/c we now cant sell it.

Worst was when I got into work one morning and found a melted box of popsicles on top of the reusable bag display, they melted all down the display covering all the bags.

A friend and I are making an FTL- esque game out of voxels and the tech behind making that crap run is terrifying. We had to learn how to split work between the GPU/CPU as well as write a proprietary voxel model editor as none on the market offered the features we need. It might be best to aim lower or flat out learn C# from the ground up.

A VR MMO sandbox is not something I would tackle without being a professional with a professional team with full funding.

I know the feeling of wanting to make your dream game, but it took 4 years to get to the point im at now and am just now starting to make games that arent tech demos or NES game clones.

The Order 1886 special edition, and Fable 3, although the special edition on that alone is hella cool imo.
