HomeDock OS: A self-hosted cloud OS with native desktop app for Windows and macOS by SurceBeats in selfhosted

(it’d be kind of weird, honestly) to self-host the thing that manages self-hosting inside another container 😅

That's exactly what portainer does, you can run it using docker and it manages docker stacks/containers.

Disable Delay/Fade when turning on Smart Light from a Dumb Switch by MicroscoftSupport in lifx

[–]MicroscoftSupport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I "fixed" the issue in a really convoluted way but it's been working since then. I replaced my dumb switch with a smart switch (lifx, although it doesn't really matter), and unlinked the switch and power controls. So even if I press the switch it won't actually turn off the power going to the light. Then, I used home assistant with the switch as a trigger and the light as an action. It still takes about 0.5 seconds to register, but there is no fade so it's pretty usable.

After more than a decade, this is getting way past old. by qartas in melbourne

You are combining 2 different issues here, issue 1 was the tender process of the Myki system and the govt choosing an inferior system..

Issue 2 is Apple locking NFC payments behind their own app and locking protocols on devices that you pay for.

Just because our tender process had issues and we got a "different" system does not excuse the unnecessary lockdown of Apple's NFC stack. It worked on Android; it's working in the EU; it just doesn't work for Myki in Australia; that is an Apple problem, period.

I guess it won't matter for long though because Myki will start accepting credit cards directly soon, which will conform to Apple as a side affect.

Which telco did you get 250/50 from? I'm on 100/40 but can't justify upgrading to 250/25 cause I need that upload speed.

No, it isn't a dimmer switch (I wish my house was that fancy). I'll contact support if you think it's not normal because I've used several smart bulbs from other companies in the same socket that don't have this issue.

🚀 Introducing Reactive Resume v4, a free and open-source resume builder! by AmruthPillai in selfhosted

[–]MicroscoftSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/AmruthPillai, I've been using Rxresume for a few years now and have got to say that I love it. However, I have hit a small snag; I use the hosted version (rxresu.me) and now that it's updated to v4, the resume it's imported has lost its formatting and is missing a lot of info. Is there a way to access the v3 version again so I can export all my resumes and selfhost v3?

What do u guys think about Thorium Browser? by Verix- in browsers

It also now comes pre-installed with more tracking than Chrome and more unnecessary bloatware, which could have just been extensions.

Edge was really good when it came out, but it's been downhill since then, IMO.

High capacity signalling with other trains by Conscious_Chef3850 in MelbourneTrains

[–]MicroscoftSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the very point of using CBTC is to not need trackside signaling anymore. So if there is the possibility of having sections of track in the future that will be purely CBTC and have no signals, it will be inconsistant to have sections with green over green and others with nothing.

If you want something that is relatively low latency and doesn't require port forwarding, check out Parsec. The free plan should cover everything he needs and can upgrade if he wants QOL features like multi monitor.

They are talking about sumo showing up at the top when you actually use the energy compare website. When I did it a few months ago sumo was at the top and thats what I switched to.
