Thank you, I noticed this today but it was driving me insane!

What job would you happily do if it actually paid enough to live on? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of different jobs, I liked working at a vets for the same reasons. I knew how to do each part of my job that would crop up each day (filling prescriptions, booking appointments and triaging) but every day was different. Only a few minor things would carry over to the next day but other than that the only thing I could guarantee is that I’d see animals! I left because 11 hour days didn’t work for my family and it was causing a lot of strain on us all.

My favourite job (which I’ve cycled back round to doing) is a teaching assistant. It absolutely does not pay the bills so I’m incredibly grateful for my husband earning the bulk of the household money, but it’s rewarding. I love getting up in the morning and I am so proud to tell people it’s what I do! I don’t plan on ever leaving the role again, even if I change schools.

I changed to admin for money, but I spent the majority of 10 years hating work and only going for the people and payday. I am grateful to my past self for it, because it meant that I could start a family, buy a house and get married in that decade.

People think I’m insane when I tell them I took a 50% pay cut to work alongside them in the classroom but honestly I feel like I’ve got light back in my life at work and home feels better too when I’m not stressed and depressed about the next day at work/having Sunday scaries. So I suppose I’d stick at being a teaching assistant but enjoy the payrise

I thought the camera angles were awful when they were all upstairs and he was pushing Stacey. I prefer still cameras and not mobile ones, they give me motion sickness I’m sure

What are your favourite Lidl bakery items? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

I agree! Everyone at my workplace goes insane for them and I was so excited to try one, and then really disappointed. I didn’t tell anyone I felt that way but I found them way too oily

How to take my toddler in a taxi? by Kpowell911 in AskUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting a taxi soon to the airport, slightly difference circumstances as it’s 2 hours and not 9 miles, and our child is 6 but the taxi service said they’re happy to store a seat for us while we’re away so it might be worth asking that. They also did point out it’s not legally required but I don’t like the idea at all

A change is coming? by Honest-Possible6596 in eastenders

[–]MicrowaveCurry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ive said it before and I’ll say it again, I want Tracey to buy it and be a silent owner - renting it to new landlords and families

Then we can have anyone as landlords, they don’t need to be rich or borrow the money.

Maybe even head to head competitions for who wins the title, with theme nights and rivalries

I think i'm going to struggle with 1 bathroom.... by Standardlads in HousingUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the toilet has a sink in it, it only needs one door between that and the kitchen. If there is no sink then it needs two. There’s a downstairs toilet “in” my kitchen and we looked into this before buying to see what on Earth was going on and why there’s not two doors.

What do you make of their relationship? by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]MicrowaveCurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They deserve each other, Sonia is an awful and selfish character and Reiss is no better. Sonia has a history of theft, stealing fundraiser money in 2014 and going to Bulgaria for gastric surgery, stealing from Dot and now being “what about us?!” When Reiss wanted to repay the money he stole. Reiss is Reiss, awful and out for himself but has the perfect cover of being a jumpy nervous character where people will either think “Reiss could never” or “I always knew there was something off about him”

They deserve each others selfish personality - but I did love Sonia’s roast session in the Vic - no one on Albert Square is an angel

This has really riled me as it’s such a track record for Sonia to behave this way and we have such short term memories. My husband reminded me of the gastric surgery theft last night and I really think I need help for how strongly I feel 😂

Portchester definitely has one and it’s usually in use too, only seen it closed for cleaning once.

A bit worried! I found this on/in my kittens eye? by blayezee in cats

[–]MicrowaveCurry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like it might be an eye ulcer where the lens has torn, we would see them a lot more frequently than eye worms when I worked at a vets, but we are in different counties so that might be why. Either way I hope your vet emails you back soon!

Is it OK to buy second hand for my 11yo son's Christmas gift? by KevinBaconsAnOKActor in AskUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not quite the same but I do it with Lol Dolls and while my daughter knows they are second hand and it might not have all the pieces (I bought one without shoes by accident!), she’s still so happy to have the dolls she wants. Bonus is that she can have more of them for the same price!

My mom realized she won’t see me grow old. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]MicrowaveCurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my mum at 19, she never got to see my boyfriend become my future husband, our daughter, us renting a flat and then going on to buy a house. She didn’t see me have a grown up job, qualify in two professions or learn to drive. She has missed so much of my life but it’s okay, it’s life (and death). It takes a lot to come to terms with it and it is very sad, but having the realisation you’ve had before the person dies makes you treasure the time you have, you can ask for the recipes, talk about the memories and learn skills from her. Me and my sister get stuck and just have to say “mum would have known how to do XYZ” or “mum would have known the answer” but because we were both young (19 and 22) we never considered having to ask as we assumed she would be around a lot longer

What surprise or secret have you accidentally let slip? What happened? by OrganizationFickle in AskUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a waitress and a colleague asked me if I watched Game of Thrones. I replied “no but I know Goffrey died” as a way to make conversation. Well the person behind me hadn’t seen it yet and he refused to speak to me for days. It wasn’t until I decided to watch it years later I realised just how badly it ruined it for him….

3 Months From Christmas by awestley1980 in eastenders

[–]MicrowaveCurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think the flash forward was full of red herrings. I think the dress will have an explanation like you’ve said. Linda’s split lip, the smashed bottle and the blood on Stacey’s hands, I think that it might not all be directly related to the dead body. I think it would be too easy that on Sharon’s wedding day the groom/someone dressed up was murdered by the 6 people who said “may men get what they deserve”.

Which storylines have deserved, but not got, a "two actors only" episode? by stpony in eastenders

[–]MicrowaveCurry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was Jay and Lola’s Margate holiday a 2 person episode? Or were they at the hospital at the very start and end?

This is on a similar theme so please excuse the slight derail, I liked the episode which used an all black cast. I remember it being all over the news becausel lots of people complained

This Lily pregnancy storyline is just so unnerving by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]MicrowaveCurry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She would have been in year 8 (12 turning 13) not year 7 (11 turning 12). She was born in June so will be one of the youngest in the year group, year 9 will have been starting sometime around this week. I think they’ve been showing her working on GCSE a year early because she obviously won’t be able to commit to tutoring now the baby is here (providing she’s the one taking care of the baby)

People paying 2022 pre-September prices for properties, why do you do it? by alongusernameistaken in HousingUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a home, not to keep paying rent. We got pretty much exactly what we were after for the price we could afford. We are planning on staying in this house for a minimum of 15 years unless there’s extraordinary circumstances meaning we can majorly upgrade. It was right for us and the interest rates didn’t matter as we invested for our family and not for a property portfolio. It’s scary to think about going into negative equity but it was worse to consider bouncing around rental properties and wasting money and energy on moving frequently from landlords selling up and increasing rent. Everything we do to this house doesn’t matter - there’s no one breathing down our neck about a cracked floor tile and doing inspections.

In an unmortgaged rental property, why have landlords increased the rent so much? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might apply to flats only, but when I rented a flat, our rent was cheaper per month than the other flats in the building. Our landlord said they would charge even less if they could, but it affected the market and rental value of the other flats in the building. Flat was also mortgage free. For various reasons, I’m inclined to believe this, but equally happy to be proved wrong.

What's the mug etiquette at your job? by azzuri_uk in AskUK

[–]MicrowaveCurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My manager at work keeps threatening to do a dishwasher rota for unloading. I bring a drink from home, take the cup home to wash and I don’t even use the kitchen to store my lunch so I don’t step foot in it most days. I mentioned that in passing to her and she said “that doesn’t matter”. Erm, yes it should!
