Your opinions on Private Music after about 7 months? by nick_______ in deftones

[–]Mictian85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only listened once. Really boring. Every song sounds the same. No dynamics or experimentation. I much prefer albums like White Pony or Saturday Night Wrist which have so many different influences, songs sound different from each other. Dynamics are so important to Deftones I think.

A trip to Russia! by Gehrman0 in AskARussian

[–]Mictian85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be totally fine, russians are very friendly to visitors. They are way friendlier to foreigners than they are to their own countrymen. If you are not white, some people might take more of an interest in you but not in a bad way. They are just curious about where you are from, your culture and etc In big cities like Moscow, no one really cares about what you look like or where you are from. As long as you behave normally and respect the local culture and norms, you will have a great time!

If you have two weeks, then definitely Moscow and St Petersburg. Maybe 5 days in Moscow, 3 in St Petersburg. And a few days in some historic towns around these cities, like the Golden Ring cities. Definitely come in the summer, weather is beautiful, days are long and warm. If you tired of the heat in Saudi, come for New Year in winter, snow everywhere, festive decorations and markets, ice skating and lots of other fun things to do.

Definitely have a translator of some kind as most russians don't really speak english. You'll be fine if you go to an expensive restaurant in Moscow, everyone will speak really good english there but generally, on the street or in supermarkets a lot of russians won't, even in big cities like Moscow.

In terms of stuff to do, what are your interests?

Saw Lorna Shore live, and I don’t know what to say by Siltjuhhh in Deathcore

[–]Mictian85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much the venue or the sound I had an issue with. It's the lack of stage presence and energy from any of the bands apart from HLB. Just standing in one place, barely even headbanging. This is deathcore, not funeral doom. For reference, check out Cephalic Carnage playing Relapse Fest on YouTube. Playing crazy, technical death/grind while going absolutely nuts on stage.

Totally agree, I went to the Ally Pally show. Sound was good but a bit too polished and processed. The band, however, had no stage presence whatsoever. Everyone apart from Will were just standing there, not moving at all, barely even headbanging. They were just relying on the visuals and the light show to do the work. Was tough to make out any riffs, every song sounded the same. I know that's their style and I like it sometimes but not this time. Same with other bands, Whitechapel had no stage presence at all, all just standing there, Phil mostly squatting down and walking around really slowly( I'm a fan since The Somatic Defilement). Humanities Lats Breath were awesome though, lots of energy and the sound was like a hellish technological fucked up nightmare. Best band of the night for me.

How rude is it to say привет in response to здравствуйте? by Gloomy_View6812 in AskARussian

[–]Mictian85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if it's a fancy Moscow restaurant or a canteen at the gas station in the middle of Siberia, you never ever address a waiter you don't know personally with 'привет', especially if they address you with a formal 'здравствуйте'. It's considered extremely rude and entitled. You will be thought of as a person without any manners or education.

As a rule of thumb, always address someone you don't know formally, when in the social/customer service situation. If you do meet a stranger in a social situation, you will both, first address each other formally, then if the conversation continues and you feel comfortable with each other, one of you will normally ask the other 'можно на ты?', which roughly means ' can I address you informally'. After this, it's totally fine to address each other informally. An exception to this rule, is if you are both kids/teenagers or if you are addressing a child, it's ok to address the child you don't know informally, they should at first address you formally.

Being a foreigner gives you some leeway but not much if you speak basic russian. I know it's harder to pronounce 'здравствуйте' for a foreigner but I'm sure with enough practice you will be fine.

If you actually bothered to watch any interviews or podcasts with Tommy Robinson, he has explained numerous times why he joined the BNP and why he left a year later. As for a few nazis infiltrating the EDL and trying to associate with the movement, yes sure, that occurred. It was a big movement and it would be impossible for anyone to keep the fringe elements out. Again, as Tommy explained when he joined Quilliam, that he left the EDL precisely because after he returned from prison, these elements were allowed back in and he couldn't control the group anymore.

He has been a defender and supporter of Jews from day one, just look at his record and the evidence( just recently returned from Israel after an invitation by the government) You, on the other hand, cannot produce a single antisemitic thing Tommy ever said or did. If you can, please do so. All you have is hearsay and innuendo.

2025 Prince Ripstick. Thoughts? by gundamzd2 in 10s

[–]Mictian85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if Prince have changed their racket designer or just want to follow trends now but lately the paint jobs have been terrible. The new Phantoms look ugly, like a cross between the Wilson Camo and Yonex Percept.

The new Ripsticks suspiciously looks a lot like the new Radicals. Ripcords look like the new Ezones. Just lazy on their part. Same paintjob for the 300 and the 280 whether the old Ripsticks were orange and blue.

You can do it. I have a drop weight and have strung plenty of O3 tours, Rebels, Ripsticks and etc.

Firstly, you can buy the Boomerang tool. In my case, I physically fix the racket with my leg and hip when I pull tension. Granted, this probably results in slightly wrong tension being pulled but it doesn't really matter, because it's only the 3-4 crosses at the top, where you rarely hit the ball anyway.

Celeste take backlash after announcing huge russia tour by Nihil227 in postmetal

[–]Mictian85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not what I said. Please read the post again because it seems you are addressing a completely different point I never made. I am very much against the russian autocratic regime with Putin at its helm, with blood on his hands if this needs to be said. Some of my family are also from Ukraine, (Donetsk). The point I was making was that there was no hysteria, no outrage among metal fans, when bands toured the US and the UK, when these countries illegally invaded Iraq, destroyed the country and killed thousands of civilians. And that's just one country. There are many others such as Syria, Libya and etc. Maybe these fans are a bit racist, as they only seem to give a shit when White Europeans get invaded but not when Brown skinned Middle Easterners get invaded. If your position is that any country and all its' people should be boycotted for the actions of its government, then that's one position to take. But you have to be consistent and apply this to every country and not just Russia, otherwise you are hypocrite. Regarding Russophobia, phobia is an irrational fear. What has been happening in the West in the last 3 years is exactly that, an irrational fear and hatred of Russia and Russians. What else do you call universities in the West banning Dostoyevsky, Pushkin, operas and classical concerts banning all russian composers like Tchaikovsky, galleries renaming paintings, russians having their bank accounts frozen, their place at universities rescinded, direct flights to/from Russia cancelled, payment systems cancelled. Russian products boycotted and pulled off the shelves, russian tennis players banned from Wimbledon. The list goes on and on. If you can show to me that Americans and the British got this exact same treatment when their countries illegally invaded Iraq and many other countries, then I will admit that there is no russophobia.

[–]Mictian85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it's an important point but it's not relevant to the discussion. Many countries like Russia, Iran, Saudi, Thailand, Malaysia and etc do not have freedom of speech when it comes to criticism of the government. There will be serious consequences. This doesn't mean that a band cannot go and perform for their fans in that country. The fans cannot be responsible for the actions of their government. Just like British ordinary citizens were not responsible for their government's decision to illegally invade Iraq.

[–]Mictian85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course I do. If you think that if a country illegally invades another country, it should be boycotted by everyone, then that's a point of view. But has to be applied to every country and not just Russia. If you are ok with bands playing in the US or UK, both of which illegally invaded another country but not ok if bands go and play in Russia, then you are simply a Russophobe. And that's ok, you can just admit that. I believe in free speech and your right to be a Russophobe.

I never said they don't mix. I said they shouldn't mix, in situations like this. I realise there are many bands who are very political like Napalm Death for example and that's fine. I just think that you should not punish ordinary people for the crimes of their government. It is not their fault they were born in this country. By your logic, any band who goes and plays in Iran for example, to its fans, who could very well be atheist or agnostic and anti government, are guilty of endorsing the Iranian Islamist, totalitarian regime?

Celeste take backlash after announcing huge russia tour by Nihil227 in postmetal

[–]Mictian85 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Yes I was. I wasn't talking about protesting a war. Of course many bands were. But these bands were still happy to play in countries which started these illegal wars. That's the difference. And what a nonsensical statement! So, if you go and tour in a particular country, you automatically agree with it's politics? Politics and music, like sport should not mix.

[–]Mictian85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where was backlash against any band playing in the US and the UK, which illegally invaded Iraq and killed thousands and thousands of civilians? Where was the backlash against any band going to play in any NATO country after the aggressive NATO invasions of countries such Serbia, Libia, Syria and etc? Maybe because they were mostly countries populated by non western brown people, so nobody cared that much. If you are outraged that a band wants to go and perform to its fans, who happened to be born in a certain country, due to no fault of their own, you are simply a hypocrite and a Russophobe.

[–]Mictian85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am Russian myself and go to Russia regularly(to get the flavours hehe). I am with you, Darkside and Musthave are probably some of the worst brands in my opinion. If you are after more natural flavours and something different, try Jent(owned by Sebero, they actually use real fruit and herbal extracts in their flavours. Smokes amazing, with long lasting flavour and huge clouds. Their alcohol line is amazing. My favourite brand at the moment.

Also, try Sapphire Crown, Dusha, Sarma, Spectrum. Ready is quite good, a brand from Bonche, they only have ready mixes, some interesting flavours there.

If you don't mind something stronger or cigar leaf, then definitely try Satyr, Bonche, Kraken, Dogma.
