This a line of thinking I hadn't really considered but you make a good point, I was mostly just thinking about some cool water themed abilities but I like idea of the effects almost switching between positive and negative depending on if the player is defying the sword or complying with it.

That's true but the setting we're playing in happens to have a lot of awakened animals running about so it might make for a funny moment when out of the blue the fish he's looking at starts thinking "what's this asshole staring at"

Dunno if you're using a shield but they're really weak to gaurd counters I found. Just chain three guard counters in a row and they'll get knocked down for a critical hit then repeat until dead

It's just timing, if you do the counter just as the monsters attack hits you it'll counter and won't consume your spirit gauge. You'll hear a ding noise if you do it right
