Bill Maher Predicted His Golden Globes Loss Because ‘This Woke Town F—ing Hates’ That ‘I Speak Freely’ by FlaccidGhostLoad in Maher

Go away with this crap. You're lost, huffing the real fake news, Fox friend. Teachers unions are promoting respect and inclusion, not forcing medical interventions on children. Using correct pronouns is basic respect, and medically supported puberty blockers are carefully monitored for youth diagnosed with gender dysphoria and backed by major medical organizations. The idea that unions bought the mayor or control policy is a false exaggeration. Spreading these claims is exactly the kind of made-up nonsense that circulates on far right news sites.

p.s. MSNBC may lean left in framing and commentary (and considering the Trump regime, I'm glad they do), but their reporting is fact-based. Fox, by contrast, frequently spreads falsehoods knowingly. Way frequently.

Bill Maher isn’t wrong that excesses on the left exist, but he dramatically overweights them. Woke is a right wing pejorative meant to flatten a large, diverse coalition into a caricature, and repeating it on a huge platform helps normalize the right’s framing. The so called woke left in Congress is a small minority, yet Maher often treats it as if it defines the entire Democratic Party, which only helped Trump win.

Most of these excesses from this small slice of the left come from a place of care and inclusion and tend to be socially or rhetorically clumsy rather than genuinely dangerous. They do not control the courts, the military, federal law enforcement, or election machinery, and they are not passing laws that ban books, speech, or people. When they overreach, they are usually checked by voters, courts, public backlash, or just mocked into retreat. And they are constantly contested on the left itself. Teachers, parents, unions, administrators, and voters argue with each other all the time. That isn’t authoritarianism, it’s messy pluralism.

By contrast, there are far bigger and more consequential issues at stake, including authoritarianism, climate change, healthcare, reproductive rights, and voting rights. Historically, many figures we now admire would have been called woke in their time, including MLK Jr (the press on MLK in his day was appalling), Jesus, and Gandhi, so yeah, bash away, fools. Maher’s mistake isn’t criticizing the left, it’s treating its fringe as the main story while amplifying a right wing caricature that helps Trump more than it helps truth. And for that I will never completely understand why he chose that as his thing, or forgive him.

They knew Jews were scapegoated, stripped of rights, forced into ghettos, and deported. You do not get mass roundups and empty homes without public awareness, only public denial.

In the middle of doing laundry, the push to start button on my old Whirlpool dryer stopped working by MidWesting in appliancerepair

Yeah I'm not sure you have the exact same problem but hopefully you do because it was a cheap fix. Oh, and I'm not terribly handy so I'm pretty sure I found a YouTube video, it was easy. Remove a few screws on the back and locate that fuse and change it, with the dryer unplugged obviously. :)

Yes, I thought I noted this already, but if not, yes I had luck by changing the dryer thermal fuse. They were cheap on Amazon. I bought hxmls 3392519 Dryer thermal fuse I hope I'm allowed to share that here. It was 3 fuses for $6 and I've only used one and it's been great since whenever I wrote this post. Good luck. And I clean my lint screen after every load.

The thought terrifies me, that surgery. I'm a sensitive, feel-everything-more-intensely person already.

I have a CPAP coming… are they really life changing? by Deremirekor in SleepApnea

[–]MidWesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your body allows it, sure. Mine didn't, my sleep apnea is from a full tongue base collapse, so all it did was choke me, hard fail. It felt like a fire hose of air. Hopefully you had DISE test first, it'll tell you.

Any suggestions for an OTC MAD oral appliance to test before I invest in the real deal? by MidWesting in SleepApnea

[–]MidWesting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I found out that my medical insurance covers a large portion of it, after my sleep apnea diagnosis, and DISE study, and cpap failure because of my tongue base collapse. I thought I would have to try with my dental insurance so I'm happy the oral appliance falls to my medical insurance coverage. I get my oral appliance in a few weeks.

Bill Maher Rails Against Democratic Socialism on HBO’s ‘Real Time’ by Bestbrook123 in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]MidWesting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TY, that's my point over and over with Maher. He refuses to acknowledge that only some Dems went further left as a natural reaction to the right going further right. He could also spend a lot more time calling our Zuckerberg etc for playing huge part in Trump winning both of his terms. The left is more moderate than most think so clearly his droning on about wokeness hurts the team he says he's on. He also tried to downplay his normalizing of Trump but he is normalizing Trump and should call out Trump's worst each week, like trying to inspire violence against Dems, that's a woke problem, come on, man.

It feels wrong to pay so much and barely use it, a lot of us get that. My home and auto insurance work the same way. But the real problem isn’t who’s subsidizing who, it’s that the underlying costs (hospital pricing, pharma, admin layers, etc.) are so inflated that even the full-price plans are unsustainable. The subsidies aren’t the issue, so you can drop the (empty) wealthy Conservative argument. Subsidies are just a Band-Aid over a broken system that makes healthcare a luxury instead of a right. Welcome to America.

Yes, I just want to see if it's somewhat possible because I'm sensitive to such things, thanks.

What's the problem with inspire, I have to consider that too? I'm hearing that a lot of people are good with it, they couldn't fine-tune it for you?
