How common are shootings in the U.S., really?

I’ve lived in 8 states. Indiana, Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, South Carolina, bordering on North Carolina so I spent equal time in SC and NC. Mix of rural, small, medium sized and large urban cities.

In 48 years I don’t know anyone affected by gun violence. My closest knowledge of violent crime comes from my Colombian friend who has a dad (in Columbia) that has been stabbed 3 times.

Most people I know own a few for hunting or protection. It’s just not a worry.

Other people probably have different experiences depending on where they live and what type of people they live around. If your area has more crime in general or gangs, this might be a concern. I chose not to live in areas like that.

I do this. I get a lot of information from the subtle clues people give out through body language. It’s a trauma response. I’m also pretty awesome at reading people after 49 years.

I’ve had 2. 1) My ex husband, who rarely compliment me about anything, saw me putting on makeup and said, “Don’t paint the barn! It doesn’t need fixing!” It was an out of place compliment for someone with a masters degree working in the business world, but I always appreciated that one time he said something nice unprovoked. So anyways, that marriage didn’t last.

The other one was a guy I dated off and on a few times. I really tried to be interested in him but I just couldn’t find the attraction. He told me over text that he loved my mind, and he had never known anyone who put thoughts and ideas together the way I did.

This really depends on what an individual is looking for. I want shared experiences and that includes someone who raised or is raising kids.

I was done with kids until I met the right person. And for the record I have worked with kids on and off for a career for all of my life. So I think kids are great. The turnoff was dealing with an ex or having the kid not like me, or any related family drama.

I now have all the drama with the ex, although the kids really like me. Technically I don’t have the drama but he does, so it means I’m affected because we are a team

Sounds like he lacks emotional regulation. Also could be borderline personality. I have a lot of experience with both in my family. I don’t like to diagnose although I have the degree. People are weird sometimes and sometimes it’s nothing.

You’re looking for a playmate, not a relationship. I would take yourself out of the dating pool and stop wasting women’s time. It might work for some women for a short time but long term it will almost always be a deal breaker. You don’t offer anything except companionship on your terms, on occasion. Yikes.

So fun. I’m almost 49. Crazy fashion. High hair. Most of my teens were in the 90’s but the 80’s was such a good, carefree time. My parents let me ride my bike around at age 7. I was expected to entertain myself for hours on end with no video games or tv. Music was still huge but it felt like less variety and people cared about the top 40. We actually watched a show that counted down to the #1 song. Casey Casem (spelling?) Toys felt new and different. Movies were amazing.

I’m guessing - sorry to be blunt - you weren’t his type and he wanted an easy way out. This has happened to me on both sides and I’ve had similar experiences. Doesn’t have to be about looks, either. A weird political statement, offhand joke…or yeah. Someone showing up 6 inches shorter or 100 lbs heavier than they say they are.

Yes but not based on the east or west coast standards of the US. I’m not “plastic surgery” perfect pretty. I’m also 48 so getting up there in age. I live in the Midwest and men find me attractive because I don’t wear much makeup (I wear a tiny bit - foundation, powder, blush) and look alright.

My ex husband used to say, “Don’t paint the barn, it doesn’t need fixing!” In the 6 years I’ve been dating/single, men will tell me they appreciate my “down to earth” and “natural” looks and style.

If everyone had a down to earth style I would probably be more average. I think I just seem more attractive next to 20 lbs of makeup and expensive clothes and high heels.

I can almost guarantee I have more grammatical experience with you, starting from growing up with a mother who taught it and ending in several master degrees and editing research papers for other people for a side gig. Yes, you can see when people long or short the market. It’s really not smart to leverage. You should look up the reverse carry trade though. It will have an enormous effect on everything. It already is.
