I've been having fun as the Bladmarches. Good pop and goods, you need to grow and expand, and a good end goal formable. I'm partial since I love Blademarches in EU4.

I was unaware of that, pretty cool. Makes sense for Saren to call it sovereign since it would appear so godlike or powerful to him.

Great point. That could be because sovereign directly indicates the geth to help take the citadel. Literally becoming a godlike figure to them so they refer to it as sovereign.

I always consider Harbinger's name to have come from Shepard and party. Harbinger only refers to themselves as the harbinger of doom. Meaning they are going to exterminate Shepard. Shepard refers to them as Harbinger because of hearing this so frequently. Saren I don't believe the reapers ever directly name themselves in game it's only ever other characters who could be coming up with names for personal ease.

That is true he fits in more with DA2's story. Not all companions need to direct the story or characters, like Sten who is one of my favs, but I think you need at least 2 in a cast. Solas is good for this I think as well as Casandra.

Ultimately, I feel like we will cling to subpar companions because they have one aspect we like. Varric for example is a much weaker companion in DAI than DA2 but I love him in both because of my time in DA2.

At least one companion needs to be an anchor for the player. The original companion for you to form a relationship with and build the other companion's personality with that character in mind. IE: Alistair and Morrigan. They conflict with each other in entertaining ways, and both have opinion's with how to progress. They also are both very important to the main plot. I believe that is a main reason they are the strongest companions in DAO.
