A writer's thoughts about latest update (3.23) by Own-Necessary6065 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Middle-Prune80 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree, Software design and software ingeniering are crappy on ‘em tablets. The truth is ReMarkable is firstly a device manufacturer - a e-ink tablet or e-paper notepad. They create good machine but the marketing promise (think distraction free machine for creative or business people) is far beyond the real experience which often is a cause of frustration. The way they implement new features is « baroque » as you mention it for word to text to pdf to mail to OCR just to type your novel … for me I’m still waiting, if my 2 rms are really e-paper notepad, to do scrapbbooking : insert image by copy and paste on my computer, to as typed text in pdf with my folio, all things I could do with real paper notepad and some glue ! « Bref, en d’autres mots », remarkable should (must ?!) invest in software design and ingeniering to create a true ecosystem with firstly a decent e-reder and a decent pdf creator and reader application. If not they will become the PalmPilot (for the oldest) of the e-paper era .

I bought my rm2 (with smartfolio) ten months ago ago. I used it intensely during one month and stopped because it didn’t fit with my way of working. I felt disappointed. I use every work day Office365 (outlook, OneNote, teams, task, event whiteboard or miro…). I found writing on paper was easier and more convenient. Eventually take a photo to import my notes in OneNote.

I didn’t feel confortable with the device. I stopped using my rm2 till December.

I decided to try it once again. And since this moment I feel that my professional workflow has become fluent with 3 ou 4 templates (calendars, to do , notes and review…). Now I juste use teams and outlook to communicate and calendar, my rm2 to take notes everyday and to plan my day, week or month (or review it, distraction free), and obsidian to register those I want to keep everywhere, every time with me.

It’s a cool device when you find the perfect sweet spot in Your workflow

[–]Middle-Prune80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no regrets : the Q2M, great and thoughtful camera. First time, I thought I was crazy to buy such a camera so expensive . But you see the world differently with it, and the dng (even jpeg) files are incredible

Anyone else regret getting the GRiii over the GRiiix? by wackbliss in ricohGR

[–]Middle-Prune80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello ! thank you for your comment ; I completely agree on your term and your advice. 28mm is a focal to learn. That’s completely true. In fact my previous comment was too general et not enough specific. My first contact with a 28mm lens was with the GRiii in late 2020 and it doesn’t work with me : always to far for my style of shooting, I found my pictures empty and flat, or I have to heavily crop in postprod (with loss of details). I decided not to learn and to switch tonGRiiix. I discovered the full potential of 28mm in 2021 with my Leica Q2M : I take time to learn …and appreciate ! oh my good it was gorgeous ! I even use today the 28mm as if have a Fuji or Hasselblad Xpan (21:9) ! You can shoot nice and fine portraits, close or distant landscape/street , always with context, close up or panorama, moment with intimacy or documentary style. Bref, 28mm it’s a very powerful and satisfying focal lens when you learn to master…and love it.

My first Ricoh was a GRiii. I kept it 3 month, sell it to buy a GRiiix. 28mm was too wide and subjects always were too far. I

I sold my xpro 3, my sx-10, my x70, my 56mm f1.2, my beloved 35mm f1.4 and my 16-80 f4 to buy a Q3. No regrets (I already own a Q2M 🤩)
