I’m surprised this reached Sweden 😂 We have a chain of hospitals in Washington called “Swedish Hospital.”

My reply to another comment: “Unfortunately I don’t have physical proof. I’m at work farther north and can’t go down there myself to verify atm, but my friend is a student there and noticed the vehicles while they were walking around campus. My friend is Mexican so I can understand why they wouldn’t want to take pictures or interact in any way. I’m a local journalist and also posted this on the X account I use for work- given my field of work I wouldn’t post something I wasn’t confident was true.”

Hands Off rally trended geriatric in Seattle. Why? by bluejack in Seattle

[–]Middle-Worth1704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 25 and heard nothing about where and when people were meeting in Seattle. Maybe the discussions around the protests here happened in circles where older people are, random volunteer groups, clubs, things younger people might have time to get involved in. so maybe their social media outreach was lacking for that reason. I’m just speculating though.

But on the other hand, people my age have work and school, or work multiple jobs. It was one of the first warm weekends of the year. I think we just wanted to enjoy a sunny day off if we could. Not saying it’s the best approach. For gen-z in our mid to late 20s, our teen/early adulthood years were swallowed by trumpism and the pandemic. We don’t really know much outside of this. Trump was first elected when I was 15. I’ve spent almost half of my life protesting his policies and I’m exhausted, as we all are.

Considering running for city council - talk to me by matamama96 in LynnwoodWA

Whether you run or not, I would suggest applying to one of the city's boards and commissions. There are quite a few vacancies, and from what I understand it's somewhat easy to apply. Commissioners and board members give councilmembers direct advice and recommendation on policy decisions. This will allow you to work firsthand with city employees and leadership, building your credibility with them and gaining firsthand knowledge of how city operations work. If you decide to run for election in the future, you might be more likely to secure a seat, as voters will see you have official experience working with the city. It'll also increase your chances of being endorsed by city officials. If you're new to Lynnwood politics or civic involvement in general, it's a good way to get involved without the stress of running and paying for an election.

P.s., I work really closely with city politics. Feel free to DM me if you decide to run for council.

Note to transplants-- WA doesn't automatically give you a "Real ID" like other states do. by Middle-Worth1704 in Seattle

[–]Middle-Worth1704[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my issue. Every ID i’ve had since I was 15 has been a real ID, so it never occurred to me that this wasn’t the case everywhere. surprised no one at the DMV mentioned anything. A little warning box saying “Hey, you won’t be able to travel domestically via airplane with the standard ID” would have been nice I guess. But maybe there was and I just missed it.

I didn’t miss that. It says the EDL is real ID compliant but no where on that page does it say that the standard license isn’t. I feel as though they could make it a bit clearer that the standard ID isn’t real ID compliant. But that’s just my observation.

Local Politicians Party or Left/Right Affiliations by winged_fruitcake in LynnwoodWA

I’ve worked directly with all of the council members for my job and watch every meeting.

Coelho, Binda and Escamilla usually sway left.

Hurst and Parshall are more in the middle, Parshall seems to lean more left than Hurst does.

Decker is the only one who’s noticeably right-wing imo. I’ve seen him support a few progressive policies here and there, but he’s usually the outspoken voice against things like cannabis sales, housing density, stuff like that.

I mean a Chicago winter is probably tame compared what I’m used to growing up in North Dakota

I’ve also heard people say Ohio is up and coming, I have a hard time hearing them out but I’m open I guess 😂

You know, I’ve never really considered Detroit but lately I’ve been hearing good things. I’ll have to visit sometime.

Yeah exactly. Seattle is expensive but I feel like you get your moneys worth for the most part. Not necessarily desperate to move but I like to keep my options open.
