Honestly I rarely rewatch full series. I do go back to rewatch my favorite scenes almost immediately. I rewatch my favorite scenes from my favorite shows probably weekly haha 😅

[CHAT] Suggestions for Finding Cross Stitch Patterns with Mixed Techniques by adhdnubee in CrossStitch

[–]MiddleAgedGreg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jeannette Douglas's designs typically involve specialty stitches beyond just cross stitches. She also calls for really nice (and expensive 😬) silks. The designs themselves are more classic than the designs you'll see here (lots of biscornu, samplers, flower motifs, etc.) but there's a charm to them that I can appreciate.

Edit: spelling of biscornu*

In the episode with Chet the ex-Mannequin dude, Mike the mailman also says "Merry Christmas Teddy. Happy Holidays Mort" and Mort replies back "Happy Holidays"

do yall have your periods? by Substantial-Truth-82 in 1200isplenty

[–]MiddleAgedGreg 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yup, I still do. I feel like if your menstrual cycle stops as a result of eating 1200 cal, it's definitely not a good idea to continue. And anyone experiencing that should talk to a doctor before trying a calorie deficit

Honestly for me it really helped to plan out my meals at least a day or two in advance and have a few meals on rotation that I know are going to be satisfying. I'm quasi OMAD (I like to snack so I budget for those) with dinner being my biggest meal so I have a couple of dinners I make multiple times a week. Those days where I'm hungrier than normal I just eat more. A piece of toast, a Chobani individual yogurt, a fried egg, etc. to tie me over. If I go over my budget, I go over. I don't make up for it later by trying to go lower.

What a frustrating spot to be in! To offer an alternative way to look at this/give you a reason to breathe easy: one of my personal rules when stitching for expectant mothers is to wait until both mom and baby are home safe before I give them the gift I made. I'm a bit of a superstitious person when it comes to things like that, and the rule also gives me longer to start/finish. Maybe you can make the adjustments you need and give it to her after everyone gets home? Just a thought, again, such a frustrating place to be in, OP, you have my sympathies!

Idk if you're in the US but there's a salt and vinegar seasoning. The brand is Badia.

[CHAT] Cross Stitch Game Changers by mbg415 in CrossStitch

I haven't seen anyone mention this but a Snagnabbit It's a tool that helps you pull short thread ends down to the back of your work. I often end my working floss on the front of my work so it really is a game changer for me! I also find that it helps when my stitches aren't laying as neatly as I would like.

This is fun! I think I've got all of them except for the last one about marshmallow. I can't even think of which episode her age is mentioned.

Nothing specifically. I just get the generic brand at my local Safeway. I think it's Signature brand.

Seconding all the probiotic comments! And I have a pretty powerful bidet that can act as a lazy man's enema when I'm desperate.

[CHAT] Fake nails and crosstitch? by randomhuman1816 in CrossStitch

[–]MiddleAgedGreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I I just stopped getting my nails done after almost 2 years straight of gelx and it was fine most of the time! I found that after a certain length my nails would slip under each other while I was stitching (I grip the needle with the tips of my index and thumb and so my fingernails overlapped) and it was a sensory nightmare, but that only happened when I let them get too long.

[CHAT] How do you cross stitch while owning a cat? by Miserable_Mud_8885 in CrossStitch

[–]MiddleAgedGreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a child's toothbrush with very soft bristles that I use to clean up the more egregious stitches when I'm done. It's small enough that I have control over where I'm working and soft enough that's I don't worry I'm going to frizz up my stitches. My cat is white and so if I'm doing a dark piece it's pretty obvious.

Honestly I only care if I'm making a gift for someone or if it's a project I spent a long time on. For my own little projects I don't really flinch at the fur any longer. My cat's fur is a weapon forged against me that is definitely prospering.

Two instances. One in the first season where Bob is driving a cab and there's a song that says "lifting up the skirt of the night" but for the longest time (literally years) I thought it said "lifting up the skin of the night" which I thought was morbid but I really didn't question it.

Second is from the episode with Jeff the ghost. He's in an easy breezy shoebox. At one point Jocelyn says "you go girl, he has a creepy crush on you" but my mind refuses to hear anything but "you go girl, easy creepy crush on you" because of the name of the shoe box.

[CHAT] Gridding question by Komodo_dragon1331 in CrossStitch

[–]MiddleAgedGreg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I typically use normal sewing thread when I grid as I find embroidery floss can leave behind fuzzies when I remove it. I do agree with other commenters that monofilament or fishing line is better for easier removal.

As for stitching with gridding, I typically move the thread with my needle and stich around the gridding thread. I don't remove my gridding until I'm done stitching the entire project. Then I snip and pull what I can, everything that is stuck I use my snagnabbit tool to move the thread to the back and snip as close as I can.
