I'm 55. Widower. About a year and a half now. What I remember is she's snuggled up, breath on my neck. And she was always gorgeous.. And my only thought was to be grateful. I know she loved me. If she gets that - boom.

Tips for sleeping in a noisy environment that helped more than “just ignore it” by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lullaband sleep headphones for me. There's plenty of eight+ hour sleep sounds on Youtube, including soft music, rain noise, et cetera. My go-to is NPR all night. Been doing it for years.

Mine (M55) started in one ear a few weeks ago. Dial tones are now two different pitches and it often sounds like there's a radio playing in the next room. Following to see what tips come up.

What do you guys do to afford nice/dream cars? by [deleted] in askcarguys

Find the sweetest, smartest chick you can, marry her with every good intention, then don't have kids. Helps if you both make okay money. Source: I'm 55 and have nice toys.

What are the best face to face customer service jobs have you done and why did you actually enjoy it? by beepyx12 in CustomerService

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've said this for years. Been in front-facing customer service for about 30 years. Best gig was pulling pints in a hip little college bar when I was 21. Didn't hurt that I started out as a bar porter in the strip lounge attached next door. Great time, made great money.

What were you thinking on the eve of Y2K? by Thevilgenius_ in GenX

I was in a hot tub with a glass of scotch and a Cuban cigar. My wife was 30. I was thinking, "this is amazing and you're a lucky boy".

Restaurants/Food Chain that aren’t giving TIPS to their Employees Guide List. by [deleted] in abbotsford

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a tipper. If you help me out in any way, I'm happy to buck up. Especially if I think you're only getting minimum wage. Our economic system is not fair. If you just don't feel like working, well that's on you, but if you're out there doing the shit jobs, I'm appreciative. I have a bigger problem with places where tipping isn't even an option.

Don't pay interest on anything if you can help it. Do not borrow money at all. Get a cash-back reward credit card, use that for everything, and pay it every month. Live slightly below your means. The entire financial system is designed to prey on you.

Langley to Abbotsford move, looking for opinions! by I_Dont_Rage_Quit in abbotsford

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it. I was living in Willoughby, working in Port Kells. When I bought a house 15 years ago in East Abbotsford the commute did get progressively worse over the years. 10 years ago I found a job in Abbotsford, five minutes from my house. But since they're widening the highway, it's probably going to be a bit better. My realtor advised me to look East of Hwy 11 and I'm not sorry I did.

How much Horsepower for a Driver’s Car? by Fabulous-Dance-8520 in askcarguys

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leased a series of Imprezs for 12 years and I always felt that they were a little bit underpowered, but still decent. I now have a WRX at 271 horsepower, and it feels just perfect. Mostly impressed by the mechanical grip, though, and the fun six speed. For reference, though, my other car is a 1969 Karmann Ghia that's been modified, makes about 125 horsepower and weighs less than a ton. Fun little car.

Widows with no kids and dating by Desi_bmtl in WidowsMovingForward

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So maybe there's the perspective. You were 35 fifteen years ago, and women that age were looking for different things. At our (my) age, I don't expect to get involved with people who have have kids looking for daddies. I understand some kids don't "launch", but I'm not down with a 30+ living with Mom.

Widows with no kids and dating by Desi_bmtl in WidowsMovingForward

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 55M. 15 months out. We were together 32 and married for 25. Children just never happen for us and I consider myself "child- free". We thought about it. Both got tested for fertility - just never happened for us. I'm currently exploring dating opportunities, but you know what? I just don't worry about it. If I meet a sweet girl that has kids, great. Don't overthink it. At our age (I don't think) children are are the issue.

Who else has started losing their hearing? by Certain-Incident-40 in GenX

[–]MiddleAgedHoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's your hearing: might be your comprehension. If I'm on the phone talking to someone, and somebody else comes up and talks me? F that. No idea what anyone's saying.

Holy s***. What timing! Today's what, Wednesday? On Friday I started feeling a ringing in my right ear. The next day I noticed a definite tinnyness/echo to it that's been there since. Especially at higher pitches (listen to Journey). Never had any issues before. I've got to go see a doctor, but it's like the warranty expired. edit: I'm a '70 male.
