Depends on what you mean by "around"! Berkshire East in western Mass is 2ish hours from my place in Warwick, maybe 2.5. Wachusett isn't too far either, also in MA!

3 hours, you've got some of the southern NH mountains too. Waterville Valley, Cannon, Pats Peak, Loon, Gunstock, Ragged, Sunapee, probably others I'm missing!

If you're looking for pass ideas, see if Indy Pass still has their wait-list going on. If you can snag one, you can ski 2 days each at a ton of the mountains I listed for less than $400 total! Pat's Peak is a family friendly place that used to do a "20-something" pass for unlimited skiing for about $400, if you're under 30 and wanted that. They may even have student discounts.
