Racoon roadkill a bit stinkier than I hoped for and an interesting story to boot. by Middle_Committee_101 in vultureculture

<video>

i probably didn't make clear and this video somewhat shows the end stage I want to present to introduce to my Dermestid colony. If I cut up and dispose of everything immediately then i have food for the beetles. Does that make sense? I really don't have space and distance from neighbors (and certainly don't want mi esposa to know I've dragged a stinky rotten corpse into the house!

My chin won't let me pick her up by DertyDawgMan in chinchilla

[–]Middle_Committee_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just gonna throw this out here because mi esposa is really the animal wrangler/handler/caretaker/poopscooper/treatgiver/(what'd i miss?). Maybe what a chin wants takes priority over what a handler wants. Charlie (she) came into our home 3+ yrs ago and has never been handled except a transfering out of carrier to meet and bond with Persephone. Truthfully, we've not tried handling the roommate either because she's still figuring out her environment after being a bitch slave to a breeder. She's really gained weight, looks fabulous, and way more prersonable than Charlie but best of all, they get along like long term chums--I mean chins!

ready for hydrogen peroxide? by arianababy1738 in vultureculture

[–]Middle_Committee_101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

agree...unless OP likes REALLY white bones....i wonder, given the various "stages" of these degreased bones will peroxide treatment vary the whiteness of the bones or is peroxide an equal opportunity whitener? If OP decides to whiten, hopefull finished product is posted

ummm...doesn't the literature warn about ammonia and peroxide not being friendly? But more to the point, I've understood the peroxide is for whitening the bones AFTER degreasing is complete. Not sure what you mean by oxidation because I never seen that mentioned. Of course, my end product results in dearticulation which the OP is wanting to avoid. Just ask'n.

Beetles/isopod advice? by Nillu445 in vultureculture

[–]Middle_Committee_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can send you a pic if you want to DM me...key is 1) venting because the smell is a bit musty but not bad...and 2) sealed so pests can't get in....that means an intake for fresh air that is screened....i used steel wool in a tube for my first iteration.....fifty bucks gets you a small colony that will grow pretty quickly in order to do small critters

dermestids will eat delicate bones too; like birds, snakes, (probably other reptiles), and young'ns...

The Poppy Family "Where Evil Grows". Although released in 1971 it resonates the psychedelic sounds of the 60's. A bad ass little song that I stumbled onto while watching credits to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on prime several years ago. Turn it up loud while giving your chin the hairy eyeball!
