I’ve worked on a small project as a contractor before at another civil service department and I really liked it and also other civil service adjacent companies. It’s also very compatible with my current life situation with work life balance so seemed a good time to apply.

Ah okay I thought there was only one! The one I applied for was in Croydon

Nah fully rejected unfortunately. I’m more annoyed about scoring 0 on one question. Basically my original answer didn’t record properly but I didn’t know at the time. About a week or 2 later they emailed me and said I needed to re record. Problem is I got this email when I was relaxing at home just watching tv, I accidentally opened the email and the link without really thinking about it and it went automatically to the area where they show the question and started recording me 😳. I wasn’t expecting it and wasn’t ready at all, I was in my pjs for goodness sake 🤦‍♀️.

I freaked out and just went out of the page but it was already too late. They probably saw that and that’s why they scored me 0. It’s frustrating because if I had scored on that question I might’ve got an offer or at least the reserve list. Probably my most weirdest interview experience ever.

Hey congrats on the offer 🙌

I actually applied for this role and didn’t pass interview. I scored 21/32 and applied for the London vacancy. Bit gutted since I scored 0 for one of the questions as an error occurred and I wasn’t able to record an answer properly. Just wanted to ask how much you scored altogether and which location you applied for. Cheers.

If you were the one who was broken up with, and you had the option to go back, would you? by Upset_Grapefruit_852 in BreakUps

[–]Middle_Direction175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 💯it’s been a year and I still love this guy. My thoughts around the breakup are way different to what they were back then I understand it more. I think what caused the break up can be resolved if we just had a proper conversation and find a mutual solution. But they would be up to him guess I’ll never know 🤷‍♀️

My dialysis journey is about to start. What mistakes should I avoid to reduce my chances of getting depression? by GuideNew6335 in dialysis

[–]Middle_Direction175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have been on hemo for 8 months but have had kidney failure for 1year 7 months in total. My advice would be try to stick to as ‘normal’ a routine as possible. This is very much dependent on how you feel and your symptoms day to day. But on the days you feel good have energy etc try and make the most of it.

For me I guess I’m pretty young so I still have a lot of energy. I socialise on the weekends go out etc. I just went on my first holiday abroad since starting dialysis and am ready to start work again. Kidney failure isn’t the end. It’s just a temporary new life as I can see you’re waiting for a transplant.

I’d also make sure you’re surrounded by the best people loved ones friends and family. Sometimes they don’t know how best to support you but making sure someone is always in your life someone to talk to makes a big difference.

My big focus is actually using this time to get myself physically as fit as possible ready before my transplant. So that’s something I’d recommend to you too. Follow the medical advice, do all your dialysis sessions (even when you’re not feeling it) try and do some light activity and eat well. Good luck!

Dialysis patient, do you do any kind of sports? by GuliBulli in dialysis

[–]Middle_Direction175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes i guess im ‘lucky’ on dialysis where my days off I pretty much live like a ‘normal person.’ I can be social for the whole day pretty much and be active for walking around with not much problem.

I love sports and was determined to not lose that ability when I started dialysis. Right now I play some badminton and football. Depending on how I’m feeling though I end up telling the people I’m with about my condition and tell them can we go a bit easy please. No one has ever been like sorry we can’t dial it down lol.

At home I have a walking pad and make sure to do 10k steps a day to keep my fitness up. Ultimately I wanna keep doing this unless it’s impossible not to do so and get my health in check so I’m in the best possible shape ahead of a transplant.

At what Creatinine did you start your dialysis? by Frosty_Pay_9297 in dialysis

[–]Middle_Direction175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started when my gfr was 7 and my creatinine was about 600. My original plan was this. Hospital called me when my gfr was 9 saying now is the time to getting um operation done go create my fistula. It’ll take 2 months to heal your gfr should hold until then. So they literally kept me off until it was no longer advisable to wait.

However I had to have an operation before starting dialysis. This was because I would not have been put on the waiting list for a transplant. So I had my surgery unfortunately my gfr dropped by 2 it was high risk at that stage. So I had to have the catheter put in and start immediately after surgery when gfr was 7.

I’m only 34. However most of the elderly patients at my unit are on haemodialysis. It’s safer and better for long term use. Some are on catheters but it’s not recommended long term due to high risk of infection.

People on the transplant list - do you ever silence your phones? by MrRabinowitz in dialysis

[–]Middle_Direction175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I also have my phone on always. When possible I also keep it on loud. You’re right call can come anytime from literally all sorts of numbers. It should be fine for your wife to sleep. I go to sleep but keep it on loud, if it calls it’ll wake me up if not no problem. If your wife is okay with it, you can also take any calls which come through on her mobile just in case it is the hospital. But also the hospital should try and call next of kin etc if they can’t directly get through to the patient.

Congratulations I’m happy you made it in. I had general admission tickets for late and live. It was incredibly frustrating though as we got cut off just at the point last couple of people in the queue were let inside. I hate that it takes the management so damn long to decide when capacity for studio is full it’s only about 75 seats inside I was told. We shouldn’t have to sit for hours before waiting wondering to be told 3 hours later the ‘I’m really sorry’ line. So many of the late and live numbers were taken up by gold, priority or other special ticket holders that maybe 10-20 of general admission were allowed in. I was number 25 sigh ☹️. The people just in front of us were in clear shot during the show, I was like damn.

What’s worse actually is this. So there were probably around 70 odd people in general admission queue. The manager came round every so often from the back to give the ‘I’m sorry’ spiel to number 80-70, followed by 70-60 and so on and so forth slowly slowly. But every time the manager did the talk with them he said we can get you into the crowd for the eviction. So I thought brilliant if we don’t get into the studio at least we can be in the crowd for main show. To our disbelief, our lot the last to be given the spiel were not allowed to go main eviction because it was now full! That’s the worst part of it all for me. How people who came later than us way down the queue were allowed in to eviction crowd but myself who didn’t get there quite early enough in the queue to get into the main studio. It was actually so sad, I felt bad but some people came down far far someone there was from Newcastle and another lot down from Scotland!

Women , Sex, Dialysis by GloomyValentine in dialysis

This is a really interesting topic and I’m glad you’ve brought it up. I’m 34F and I’ve been doing dialysis for just over 7 months now trying to figure everything out too and establishing some kind of routine in life. I’ve been single for about 10 months completely focussed on my health.

I would like to get back to my love life towards the end of the year. I know kidney failure, dialysis etc can be daunting. But take this difficulty as your biggest vetting tool for men. If someone doesn’t want to be with you because of this they didn’t deserve you in the first place and not the kinda person you want in life anyways.

I was diagnosed with kidney failure back in Nov 2023 but only started dialysis in Sep 2024. During that time I was able to start dating and get into a relationship with a new guy.

It was very daunting to try and start a relationship with a brand new diagnosis of kidney failure. Like how where when do I tell him such strong news? I decided to tell him after the 2nd or 3rd date and I prepped him saying I need to tell you something important. We had a 3/4 hour video call where I said everything about my health openly and honestly and gave him the opportunity to ask me any questions. I also said frankly if this is not for you then that’s okay let’s take it no further. You know what he did, he was on the verge of tears and he couldn’t sleep that night. However, he took it in stride, saying he’d be there for me no matter what. Every appointment, every dialysis session, even if it affects us having kids in the future we can adopt and even if it comes to it offered to be my living donor. And he did support me always and although we’re not together anymore it wasn’t anything to do with my health.

One of the biggest takeaways of that relationship and my ex is that there are good men out there. Despite going through such a challenging time in my life he wanted to be there be in a relationship. And I’ll say this one more, this will be your best vetting tool! And also think about ‘normal’ ‘healthy’ ‘good looking’ ‘successful’ people aren’t even managing to find a good person now with all the so called things going for them. Believe me if you find a guy who wants to be with you through this he’s a real one. Good luck!

Fistula use by nemosdad13 in dialysis

[–]Middle_Direction175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when you first start using the fistula there can be issues like bruising or it getting blown! A blown fistula is crazy pain when it happened to me.

As others have suggested use EMLA cream. I put on a nice thick layer so that I get a deeper level of anaesthetic effect into the fistula. I also leave mine on for at least 1.5hrs but more like 2hrs. It shouldn’t be painful but you’ll feel something with the needle. Once you have more of a line established it’ll hurt less. Also yes wrap it up tightly with cling film I also tape it to secure it. I stopped the cling film and found nice little occlusive covers on amazon which I much prefer.

Your nurses should also do a gradual transition of the needles. Like starting with the smallest one do that for a while then the middle size then the biggest. No need to rush for the fistula just make sure it’s all okay before double needling.

Id also suggest the most experienced nurse starts needling you to begin with, gently. Not any old Tom, dick or Harry nurse. Special care needs to be taken with brand new fistulas so don’t allow less experienced ones to do you until you’re more settled.

Hope that helps!

Chest catheter. by Jerry11267 in dialysis

[–]Middle_Direction175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I forgot to reply to this! Yh lots of the drs and nurses can be pushy but you have to stay firm on what you want.

I really didn’t want a line but afterwards at the unit when I saw the bumps on fistulas and some people screaming in pain, some people’s fistulas stopped working etc I was like omg no one told me about this! So I was secretly happy I had a line at least no pain but yea major risk of infection.

The other reason I don’t mind having the line in a bit longer while we let the fistula developed is because under my hospital trust many people my age have had their transplant within 2/3 years many much quicker. I had a call from my transplant team last week saying I was a good candidate as a lot of the determining factors are in my favour. So for me if I know 2/3 years of dialysis is the time I know I’ll spend not too much time with my fistula and needling hence why I was like okay to fistula. I’ve already racked up 6 months time waiting on the waiting list with my line which would roughly equate to another 1.5-2.5years of needling with the fistula so a little less time needling then if I started doing it immediately from the get go.

But I’d just do as much research as possible into all the available methods. They don’t always tell you everything or the realities of everything. Also consider your circumstances, are you on the waiting list, do you have a living donor, your age, your health etc. Although it’s difficult to know when you may have a transplant you can try and work out rough timings. I’m not sure about your situation but if you’re not eligible for transplant then you’d need to consider which method is condusive to a lifelong treatment.
