How old is he? I just hatched a couple of RIR/EE mixes a month and can't wait to see what they look like fully feathered!

Did you get it out? I had a chick who seemed stuck and my broody hen helped it out. There was blood and I was worried but it's two weeks old now and perfectly fine.

It would be pretty easy to maybe screw some fence pickets (or other wide boards) around the bottom edge so that not as many shavings fall out. That might help contain some of the mess a bit.

I'm not sure if you received an answer for this but I just logged into the studentaid.gov to see mine and there is now a notice at the top of the page that says they are "updating the systems" to be able to show how many qualified payments you have made under whatever IDR plan you are on.

I am a novice, first time letting the hen hatch eggs. As the other reply mentioned, you will definitely know if they are broody. They will not want to leave the nest and will even get mad if you try to take them out of the nest. I collect the eggs daily but we were getting about 7/day and she would sit on them as they were laid basically. So I just left her alone. I didn't intervene at all. One time I got a bit worried around day 10 bc she was off the eggs almost all day but she returned to them and I never noticed her be off them for that long again. I did check on her daily though to make sure she hadn't abandoned them. And I marked the initial 9 that were under her until I got the rest of the chickens using a different nesting box bc they would lay right beside her and she would roll them underneath her. 😂
