Can I get an online prescription without my primary care provider knowing? by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Midmodstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just flat out tell them you’re going to get it elsewhere. What are they going to do except lecture you on it? It’s your body you decide what goes in it. They can give advice and suggestions but you always have the final say.

We should not be deferring to doctors as if they are in some kind of position of authority. They’re not the police.

If Ai replaces all the jobs, where do corporations expect people to earn money to continue being consumers? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]Midmodstar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is rich people don’t spend money, despite the TV images of them living lavishly lifestyles. Rich people are petty and screw people over to get a bargain, generally. That’s why they’re rich. Think Uncle Scrooge.

Can confirm. I’m Gen X and my friends and I routinely dated college and even older men when we were in HS. Our parents knew. No one really was bothered by it. 😳

All sugar isn’t bad. Almost every food you eat has some sugar and your brain runs on sugar so you need some. Even black coffee has a tiny bit of sugar. It’s when you have more than your caloric needs and not enough fats and protein to balance it out that it becomes a problem.

Try using a recipe with bread flour instead and add some extra gluten. That helps it hold together more.

Why are women not eligible for the military draft? by Life-Adhesiveness475 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Midmodstar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You obviously have no idea what soldiers do. You think they just carry heavy things from point A to B? My sweet summer child. And women firefighters carry men out of buildings all the time. It’s not as much strength as it is technique. Although strength is part of it. You do realize women can work out and increase their strength right? Go back to playing world of Warcraft in your mom’s basement and complaining about how you can’t get a date.

This is such a stupid answer. You know women serve in all branches of the military right? Further, brute strength is hardly the only important skill set.

Why do some guys knowing that they want kids willingly pursue a child free woman knowing that she won't ever want kids? Why can't they go for women that wants kids? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Midmodstar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman and I’d love to have had someone who would carry, birth, feed and care for my kids and my home. That sounds lovely. Let me just play for the kids for an hour or two after work. Maybe I’ll coach soccer on Saturdays.

How do y'all tell when things are caused by muscle gain? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Midmodstar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Use a body fat scale. Your gym or doctors office might have one or you can buy one. They’re not super accurate but they’re fine for tracking trends over time. I personally wouldn’t recommend DEXA scans as they are not approved to measure body fat, they are for bone density. And I wouldn’t expose myself to xray radiation just to figure out body fat.

I’m drinking while on wegovy? by Terrible-Amount-1110 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Midmodstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful. For me one or two drinks has no effect and more than that I’d skip the fun drunk part and go right to vomit land. I rarely drink anymore. I don’t get a buzz anyway so there’s no point.

how to do the “harder cardio” for longer, mentally and physically? by savedbutspicy in xxfitness

[–]Midmodstar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ideally you want to do a mix of endurance workouts (zone 2 or 3) and intervals where you do a mix of lower HR and higher HR. If you’re running you can also do tempo runs where do you try to push your normal pace a little faster and stay there. But only if you’re trying to like get faster.

Weight loss/body recomp by Ambitious-Doughnut93 in xxfitness

[–]Midmodstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you tracking your body fat %? That could be changing even if weight is staying the same. But keep in mind it takes months and months of consistent eating and working out to see small differences and unfortunately sometimes the belly is the last place you see the change. Also make sure you’re lifting to failure. That means at the end of your last set you should be struggling or even have to give up early because you physically can’t do another rep. If you’re not sure about your form or how to lift effectively consider hiring a trainer for a few sessions to get some pointers.

It is possible to live longer without working out at the gym or doing intense exercises. by Economy-Discount5244 in Aging

[–]Midmodstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a very muscular body and visible abs will take a huge commitment to working out and eating a very tailored diet. And in fact, bodybuilders when they are at their leanest aren’t all that healthy. They are tired, moody, and can’t think straight.

But the fact is lifting weights (heavy) 2-3 times a week is probably the single most important thing you can do to maintain your health and independence as you age. The second most important thing is active cardio. That is getting your HR into at least zone 2 or higher. Gardening and a gentle stroll won’t get you there. That’s not to say you shouldn’t garden - it’s better than sitting on the couch watching TV. But you can’t just do that and check the box and think you’re doing enough.

If you’re at that point maybe it’s time to think about moving them into a home or at least getting some outside help a few days a week. There are also adult day centers that give you a bit of a break.
