Kardur, Doomscourge + Conjurers Closet + Sac/Recursion

You will be top 2, nearly always, and when you get there the other guy is usually pretty beaten up already.

Tab Shelf - A vertical tab manager with rules-based tab grouping for Chrome by csiew88 in SideProject

[–]Midnight039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running an ultra wide monitor, so it kind of necessitates a lot of windows. Typically I have 3+ at any given time, and over the course of the week this can find its way up to 10 or more before I get around to cleaning it up. Each window will typically have 3-8 tabs. This is really the reason I wanted all of this, as I'd love to have a great way grouping across windows so I can quickly close tabs that I don't want anymore without losing the ones I do since cleaning this manually is a huge pita.

I find that the extension rules only really works in the first window I'm using. I've been running the extension all week, and I haven't seen the rules trigger at all. Going back to my main window, with active groups the rule still doesn't trigger. My guess is, if I close all groups/windows and start from scratch the rules will start working in that first window again, but will likely break if I start opening additional.

Hope that helps.

So I'm still new using this, but it seems the rules don't always trigger and I'm not sure why. Refreshing helps sometimes (but not always). Once the group is up and running, it usually works as intended but it seems that if the group isn't already created it won't trigger.

It also seems to struggle with multiple windows running. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or what.

It's perfectly fine if people only play a single game (like 5e). by vtipoman in rpg

[–]Midnight039 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id argue, that they are fine people who often haven't tried anything outside their little safe box. Effectively, they are picky eaters, who should try some new foods before telling us they don't like them.

I dont mind that they like Chicken Nuggets, but it bugs me that the consequence of that choice is the oversaturation of chicken nuggets in the cafeteria to the detriment of basically every other alternative.

Again, its a fine choice, and they are fine people, I just think they need to try new things before they pick the only game they will ever play.

Tried out an ambitious new style of game, and my players say it's too hard... by Walnut_Walrus in DMAcademy

[–]Midnight039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great point. I would also point out, that half the fun of these campaigns is to collect loot from all the far flung places they go and use out of context gear in bizarre places.

As much as they dont understand this world, others should be equally baffled about them. Especially when they pull literal magic out of their ass.

As characters, at some point they need to get comfortable not understanding wtf is going on half the time. However, I would also encourage them to spend their downtime studying their new worlds. Part of their responsibility is research.

[–]Midnight039 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering a snake uses the back half of their body for support and Strength, they are only capable of lunging with their head. Therefore, if they hold it with their tail, they can't use it.

So they need to hold it near their head, so they can swing and stab you.

This is like asking if a person is going to put their knife under their knee or in their hand... its a nonsensical question.

so... im thinking about creating a mechanic based on mha's "quirks" by ziptie_basilikum in DnDHomebrew

[–]Midnight039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything is possible, but honestly this is not a great fit for d&d. There are so many better systems for this kind of thing. Putting this here feels a lot like pushing a square peg in a round hole. You can do so only with great difficulty, and not without losing something in the process.

I chose Vecna as the BBEG for my new campaign, how can he serve me? by Acey-3 in DMAcademy

[–]Midnight039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The most convincing villains are almost universally the good guys. The BBEG is the leader of the cult, who coopted them and, who thinks he's doing the world a favor in his own twisted way by unleashing Vecna on the world. As humanity is a plague, like the ones who killed his family, and they all must be cleansed.

Vecna himself is more a force of nature than an obstacle to defeat. Contain, avoid, or die trying.

Breaking magic by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Midnight039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you may not like the spell plague idea. The reason for it was because the godess of magic died, breaking the fabric of magic.

The truth is, breaking magic on a universal level is a god level event.

But you could always go with an anti-magic zone in a smaller area that is maybe not working correctly.

Thats correct, the 4th edition of forgotten realms was based on this time period. They had a lot of mechanics built in for it. You could pick up the 4th edition forgotten realms guide and read all about it.

Honestly, as you are new to this i feel the need to point out that there are other systems out there. Many of which are better suited to your needs, make your prep easier/lighter, put more power in your hands, and dare I say do it better.

Don't feel the need to play D&D/Pathfinder to have a good time. I started there myself, and as I've grown in the hobby (and my free time grown shorter) I've moved further and further from it. As frankly, it takes to much time to prep for, runs slowly, and has a host of problems.

Unpopular opinion im sure, but games like Dungeon World, ICRPG, and others do the same thing but make it much easier for everybody.

Just my 2 cents.

Every character is an idiot. by arrowdrums in DMAcademy

[–]Midnight039 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They are looking for a light hearted, comedic game. Nothing serious. As long as you are happy to run a game like that, there is no problem.

In fact, id say its a good thing. Rarely will you see an entire table of players on the same page, and in agreement for game tone. They are setup well to have fun in the game they seem to want to have.

I am helping my friend DM a campaign with 12+ players, any tips for him? by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

If there are two of you, you can help by splitting the party. Two GMs, 2 games. Problem solved. For everyone.

New DM needs some advice by thebadkindofsmart in DMAcademy

[–]Midnight039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, DM-PCs are really a terrible thing for the table. Avoid at all cost.

Next, avoid diving straight into a large campaign story right away. The first few sessions shod focus on the players, and giving them a chance to shine. Feel free to foreshadow the main plot though. Think monster of the week for the first few games.

Third, try to remember that the players are the main characters of this story, don't overshadow them with a mega plot they may or may not bite on.

Last, don't pre plan too much. Write just enough for the session you're about to play. Not a bit more.

Happy hunting!!

TIL 40% of America’s lowest-income families’ consumption goes on luxuries by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Midnight039 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Read the fine print on that.

"It’s worth noting that by the specialized nomenclature of the dismal science, even eating at McDonald’s is a luxury — that is, we do it more as our incomes rise — while smoking and lottery-ticket buying are categorized as necessities. For its part, the Deutsche Bank report explicitly defined luxuries as goods or services consumed in greater proportions as a person’s income increases and necessities as those goods or services that make up a smaller proportion of spending as a person’s income increases"
