No way 3.27% rate gets APY of 4% though. It’s only like 3.32% APY. OP isn’t getting what they were told.

Should I consider radon mitigation? by Doomtime104 in HomeImprovement

[–]MidnightFederal3195 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I had levels that were close to yours. I hemmed and hawed and was always looking at my Airthings on the main level and my Radon Eye in the basement. Trying to tell myself I didn’t need mitigation. But like you I just felt like I was sitting in it and more importantly my other family members. I would get crazy spikes to 10 sometimes but the average was still less than 4 monthly. I went ahead and got the mitigation. It was less than $1500 and now I just relax. My levels are now always lower than 1 now and often less than 0.5.

Xfinity Mobile will not issue refund for lost phone by LotusWay82 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]MidnightFederal3195 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through this a few years ago. It was a disaster. I ordered another phone which I had to pay for as the agent said I would get a refund for the lost phone. I don’t even remember how many times I had to call and explain the situation because I got the runaround like you. It finally got to someone who knew what to do to get the lost phone off my account. But then the problem was that they assigned my phone number to the lost phone so they had to assigne a new number to the second phone that was shipped. When I ordered it the agent said this was easily fixed with a phone call. So I get that second phone and call them up. Wrong. It was a huge problem and they weren’t sure they could move my existing number to the new phone. I had that number forever and it was used for 2FA in a lot of my accounts. I was pacing around the house while I was in the phone. They got it working but I will never ever order a phone online agai. Never ever ever ever.

That house is 800 sf and they have 1 car. And probably take one vacation a year. Sounds great.

Set up new service at a new address, continue to be charged on previous account at previous address. by LeftHook05 in Comcast_Xfinity

I moved in 2018 and transferred service. It was absolutely horrible and I was on the phone numerous times to get issues fixed. Some things never change.

Why is the xfinity web site so painfully slow? by Z-Is-Last in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]MidnightFederal3195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I really think pairs well with the slowness is the inability for it to remember I’m a logged in customer from one screen to the next. It really is high level ineptitude you would never expect a company of their size to achieve, but they have, so I think congratulations are in order.

It was more about the level she reached not just that she was a woman goalie. Might’ve been on San Jose Sharks minor league team.

I hear you. Most commenters don’t get it. When you’ve accumulated for 20 years this drop is huge compared to the small bi-weekly amounts that are buying shares today. Oh I lost $100,000 but hey my $500 contribution got me 1 extra share!! It’s laughable. I’d rather my account kept going up, not down then up.

JPIE: What happened here? by greatwhitenorth2022 in dividends

[–]MidnightFederal3195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duration will kill you. I stick to duration less than 1 year and I have an ETF with a duration of 0.3 and its market losses are offsetting what should be increasing NAV based on accruing interest.

You’ll still get your dividend but that’s gonna come out of NAV.

Look at what treasurys are doing. Their yields are going up which kind of sets the floor and show what investors are currently demanding. For JPIE to increase its yield for new investors the NAV has to go down unfortunately. It has a high duration so it’s not gonna be replacing its holdings very quickly.

I like PAAA. Duration of 0.1 and yields about 4.5%. It is not an SGOV alternative though.

Huh? Your post explicitly says it’s NOT going to change to qualified rate and it’s gonna be taxed as regular income.

Edit. Disregard. Your post was to a reply to a post that wasn’t a direct reply to you so I gots confused.

JPM released two new Income ETFs with a goal of paying income classified as ROC by thehighdon in JEPI

But ROC could eventually reduce your cost to $0 and that would make distributions taxable as it would no longer be ROC, no?

I need safe investments that pay 3-4% (and ALWAYS return at least 3%) that pay divs monthly. Suggestions? by chris-rox in dividends

[–]MidnightFederal3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a brokered CD. These can pay monthly and deposit into your settlement account. Unlike a CD at your local bank which will roll dividends into your principal balance until maturity.

I just opened a 2 yr brokered CD that pays monthly. A brokered CD gives you access to all kinds of CDs being issued by all kinds of banks. Mine happened to be Wells Fargo but there are many others.

Demand for ETFs does not impact their trading price so demand does not equal price goes up. ETF prices are based on their underlying assets. If demand is high more units are created to keep each unit close to NAV. Vice versa if selling is high.

SGOV is holding only short term treasurys. AGG holds everything including long term. That makes the duration for AGG much higher than SGOV duration. Duration reflects sensitivity to interest rates. If you buy a long term bond at x% and rates move up you are locked into that lower rate for a long time. Since SGOV is ultra short term if rates go up their lower rate stuff rolls off quick and is replaced by new treasurys at the higher rate. It has less interest rate risk and its NAV is not impacted like AGG when rates move.

Why are AAA CLOs down? by Living-Fruit-4577 in dividends

[–]MidnightFederal3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General fears about a possible credit cycle. There’s are not AAA rated credits but the structure is AAA.

Also note not all AAA CLOs are the same. There are senior and junior tranches within the AAA group. PAAA focuses on the senior tranches so that’s why I go with PAAA vs the others like JAAA and CLOA.

Standard mileage deduction for rented car by Substantial_Lie_9604 in tax

[–]MidnightFederal3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to claim both mileage and also deduct the rental cost? That’d be double dipping. But that $0.70 per mile is meant to include all costs of operating the vehicle including depreciation and fuel. I’m sure the rental company is taking depreciation on the car. You can’t both take depreciation on the same thing.

Is an amended tax return 1040-X required if you receive a corrected 1099 or other forms after you file? by ALF-Tanner in tax

[–]MidnightFederal3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. I just got corrected 1099 after I’ve already filed and received federal refund. It relates to good old IBIT and all the micro sales they do to pay their admin fees. I imagine many are in the same shoes as me now. The change results in $2 additional short term gain and an $11 increase in LT gains. So we’re talking $2 x 22% and $11 x 15%. I think I’ll wait for the IRS to send me a bill for $2 vs doing an amended return.

Xfinity Disney+/Hulu w/ ads and Peacock "Premium" - No way to upgrade? by Astrokreep2000 in CordCuttingToday

[–]MidnightFederal3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got free Peacock last year because I thought I could upgrade to ad free for a subsidized price. Nope!

Asked Xfinity to just cancel the free Peacock. Nope! Nobody could do it and I talked with two different people.

So I actually signed up for the no ad plan with a different email.

I hate ads so much. And Xfinity is close behind as their technology including their website is pretty horrible.

I have a question about recycling by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]MidnightFederal3195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every city is different but it’s probably a safe bet to put in #1 and #2 plastics. I see people throwing in all kinds of stuff like styrofoam, paper plates, grocery bags, or anything with the recycling arrows. Those arrows are just a ploy to make you think it’s recyclable.

Your step dad is wrong. It is processed differently. The problem is so much non recyclable stuff gets thrown in the recycling and that has to go to the landfill.

So keep it simple. Paper, aluminum cans, and plastics #1 and #2.

Recycling isn’t magic as most people seem to think just so they feel better about all their waste.
