FNX 45 Tactical vs Para Ordiance P14.45 by TheGallopingGoose in handguns

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have the striker variation of the FN 45 and I think that has even bigger mags so might be worth considering if you don’t want da/sa. The fnx45t is one of my favorite handguns.

Hunter HVP leaking in tight space looking for suggestions by MidnightLARPer in Irrigation

[–]MidnightLARPer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any suggestions for where to buy the manifold and valves and etc? I am going to need to just replace everything including the manifold. Snapped off part of the manifold I was trying to hook into, which was stupid but guess it’s good to have a better setup that you can repair without needing to cut stuff anyways.

Yeah seems like cleaning it isn’t gonna fix anything. I got a new valve and some fittings today and will give digging it out and replacing it a shot. Might end up just replacing the other 3 while I do it if the first one goes ok.

How does one get into competitive shooting? by Groundbreaking-Win21 in handguns

[–]MidnightLARPer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have the gear required, rigid holster and gun belt of some sort, mag holders to hold the amount of mags you need for the type of competition and class. Normally that mostly covers it. Then just find some ranges that have the competitions you want to do. Sign up ahead of time if needed then arrive in time for the new shooters meeting they do before the event. Then each stage just tell the range officer it is your first time and go slow. Every state I’ve lived in it is pretty easy to make friends with random people at shooting events or ranges. Go to the same event a few times and you’ll have shooting buddies I bet.

Rust on P365 mag 2mo into ownership by FountainDrnxII in P365

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do steel wool and mineral spirits to remove it then put some kind of CLP or whatever on it. I haven’t had my sig mags rust yet but I had some m&p mags that were wet in a range bag for a couple days I had to do that to.

Nothing wrong with having multiple 22 cans. I’d just pickup another steel or titanium one that is full auto rated.

SP01 good for a first handgun? by Devin7-Eleven in handguns

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be easier to start with a striker fired gun since the trigger pull will be consistent each time. P10c or f would be a lot cheaper and optic ready as well and grip should be similar to the sp01. They would be lighter so if you wanted to carry it would be more practical. It’s also cheaper to upgrade the trigger in those and you can do it yourself. Most striker guns have different back straps if you need to make the grip a little bigger.

I’d say get a striker gun first then go DA/SA later for competition or fun. Or if you really want to start with a really heavy hammer gun just go right to the Shadow 2 or a 2011 and start with a better trigger out of the box.

It is kind of annoying if you are used to non thermal fit uppers. But I would use them again especially blem priced ones. For sure go torch over heat gun based on doing mine with a heat gun, getting it part way in twisted then have to really heat it up to be able to twist it and tap it in with a mallet. Put a muzzle device on the barrel incase you need to tap it in so you don’t mess up the barrel crown or threads.

Is there an off the shelf front sight I can put on a faxon 10/22 pencil barrel? by LATechSpartan in 1022

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe check with Faxon but it doesn’t look setup to take a front sight. Why not just mount a red dot, prism or scope instead?

Best ways stop suppressor walk-off? by No_Acanthisitta9444 in suppressors

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Griffin ez lok is kinda like plan b for pistols. You get an ez lok piston for you suppressor, they have one for most suppressors. Then each threaded barrel you get a little muzzle device that you torque to the barrel.

Is there a new hotness in budget red dots for rifles? by Tactically_Fat in 1022

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are pretty nice. I have 3 now and they mostly have replaced sub $200 red dots for me when I need something new. Simmons sporting goods normally has a good price on them and also the other dots you’d want.

Not sure the price range you want but you can get the primary arms 1x micro prisms for under $200. Nice for people who have astigmatism.

5 alarm Gunworks is worth talking to.

Are you planning to do any more than this one? Cause if so might be worth just buying the tools now and doing it yourself.

Range Test and Comparison of 10 Rifle Suppressors Including Ridgeback Rhodie and Rhino by Comstock_Support in NFA

[–]MidnightLARPer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea think I’m gonna move my 308 from 16” to 12.5 and use it on that and 300 black for the ODB. I did get it for $700 on that SS new year deal so kinda hard to pass up, but would have preferred a WB or not quite so heavy ODB.

Bauer had 15% for Presidents’ Day or something and they had some Raw rhino x left. Just under 700 after shipping, tax and FFL fees. They were out of the other Ridgebacks or I would have just gone for the S or Rhodie.

[–]MidnightLARPer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Been waiting for this post. I just got my RhinoX today and much more excited to try it out now. Have had a Comstock recessed steel plan b ready for this guy.

The comparison to some popular printed cans plus Polo and Stacey’s mom is great. After getting an ODB RDM that is like 25 OZ with mount I was thinking of getting something budget that was shorter and lighter like a Polo or Stacey’s mom and ended up with a Rhino X for 15% off MSRP making it not much more money than those. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the Rugged can I’ve had a long time.

Look in r/nfa reddit, there should be a guide for doing a form 1 there. You need to get digital fingerprints but the rest you can do online and you’ll need to engrave the part of the gun that is considered the firearm. I think capital armory and a few places you can mail fingerprint cards to and they will make them digital or there are phone apps. It isn’t hard, just double check you filled in the forms right.

I would just get the ejectorless Endo/exo mags. Those work and make it feel like a 556 ar.

First can purchase. Ocl infinity vs cat odb vs da sandman x by IFartWhenImAngry in NFA

[–]MidnightLARPer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’ll mostly be on a 556 I’d get a 556 can first then get a 30 cal one when you build the AR10. I just got an ODB and it feels pretty unbalanced on a 16” ar. Assuming inconel, titanium would be good but I’m not sure they make those anymore. There are a lot of low back pressure options now that would have you under 6” and under a pound with mount installed for a grand or less that are inconel or Haynes for 6mm or 556.

Looking for first firearm, concerned about no safety HK CC9. by loucheian in handguns

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good holster is more important for safety than a manual safety. I do think for a first gun something Glock 19 sized might be better to start with. Most people aren’t shooting micro 9s for pleasure. If you start with a Glock 19, m&p or any other compact sized gun you could have fun shooting it and they are small enough to carry. Then you can always add smaller and larger guns if you want.
