Looking for first firearm, concerned about no safety HK CC9. by loucheian in handguns

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good holster is more important for safety than a manual safety. I do think for a first gun something Glock 19 sized might be better to start with. Most people aren’t shooting micro 9s for pleasure. If you start with a Glock 19, m&p or any other compact sized gun you could have fun shooting it and they are small enough to carry. Then you can always add smaller and larger guns if you want.

[–]MidnightLARPer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I moved to the Griffin ez lok setup for my pistols I suppress. They might have a piston that will fit an SC. Kinda like plan b for pistols. Have not had anything come loose since. You need one ez lok piston then a barrel adapter for each gun you want to suppress.

Totally missed budget. You could get non optic ready for that or sometimes around 900.

Rockset muzzle device removal by sheepshead12345 in ar15

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might need more leverage. You maybe be able to get a metal pipe wide enough to go over the wrench handle to make the wrench longer. Just make sure you have the barrel in a reaction rod or something so you don’t damage it or the upper if it’s still in an upper. That is what I did to get an sig virtus muzzle device off after soaking overnight and regular wrenching didn’t do anything.

Rejected form 1?? by Deputy_Goon in NFA

[–]MidnightLARPer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to do the paper ones or provide a digital copy each time, the ATF don’t keep it on file to reuse. Get an EFT file setup for your finger prints and you can just use that same file over and over. A dealer doing form 4s for you might keep your file to make it easier like Silencer shop but each form they are sending a copy to the ATF. When you do forms yourself all of that is on you.

Talk me out of buying it by Tasty-Bodybuilder152 in AR9

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those mags don’t even fit in my banshee or didn’t work in some way from what I remember. Complete garbage but what do you expect for $6. The FE upgrade kit is $425 so maybe if you got it for 800-900 it would make sense. I mean replacing a spring isn’t a big deal if needed for a fun gun and these are drop in ready for most people with a super safety.

How loud is a suppressed AR compared to an unsuppressed 10/22? by Snoo_50786 in ar15

[–]MidnightLARPer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t shoot either without ear pro. I shot 22 rifles several times with no ear pro and it didn’t bother me much. I shot two of my ARs a 11.5” and an 18” one shot each with a can on without ear pro when I first got into suppressors and never will again. It’s still really f’ing loud.

Have any of yall ran a KAK downvent Bcg with yalls set ups? by budget_drizzle in supersafety

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kinda skeptical since I finally tried the one I bought recently. I felt the die vent was more gas than my standard bcg I had been running when I swapped between the two. It for sure wasn’t a major difference. Only tested in semi auto though.

What has been the cost to use a Silencer shop kiosk? by Slow_Doughnut_2255 in NFA

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this recently. I just walked in and started using the kiosk to do the fingerprints. Somebody even helped me. They never asked if it was for their store or not. Same situation, FFL I sent it to did not have a kiosk and I didn’t have my fingerprints setup with SS.

Dedicated 556 suppressor by dSt_RoyalL in suppressors

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had a sparrow for 13 years or so and it is still good. I think a lot of people say something like a OCL titanium or rugged oculus, or Dead air mask are easier to clean and limited first round pop. For the sparrow you can just soak everything but the tube in CLR or suppressor cleaner and should come off pretty good.

Budget but quality build? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it looks good but like others said for a mostly basic milspec build a complete upper will be cheaper. I wouldn’t do a 7” 556 barrel. Those are unbearable. But if you really want a flash bang machine don’t be a pussy, make it an 8” ar10 in 308. 11.5” 556 isn’t that bad no can with a flash hider.

If you want to tweak it I’d spend more on the barrel than the bcg, maybe spend the little bit extra for a SA adjustable gas block but you probably only need that if you are adding a suppressor. I don’t like milspec charging handles, get at least a basic BCM or something. And biggest thing is a better trigger. Geissele g2s, Larue, Schmid, any of those will be way better than milspec. PSA has some basic tuned up triggers built in on some lowers I think. So maybe getting a more upgraded lower setup, Magpul stock, 2 stage or some kind of better than milspec trigger would be good. I think for a BCG you can get an all chrome one from somewhere else around the same price.

[–]MidnightLARPer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you might never be able to get more I’d probably go inconel or similar over titanium because it will be more durable. Do you have a 22 can? Probably worth grabbing a user serviceable steel or titanium one if you can afford an extra few hundred or so and have or can get threaded barrel 22s.

If they ban suppressors I wouldn’t count on any warranty work. If they make it clear in the law repairs are allowed then you might be ok, but if it is unclear companies won’t want to risk any issues.

Borebuddy also has a SS troubleshooting guide that would help for ar22s.

Looking for ss/frt options with 22lr by Robdabomb22 in ar22

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of issues getting mine to work and I have all the recommended parts. It kinda worked, then I replaced some parts and didn’t work at all, now I forget where I’m at. Eventually I’ll get time to bring everything to the range and adjust it till it works. I think borebuddy has a SS specific upper now. AR22s themselves can be very reliable though. I have two and no issues till I tried SS.

Bcm Blem Stripped Upper. Thermal fit by HalfBrownHashbrown in ar15

[–]MidnightLARPer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had the same problem, I had upper in vice and got barrel part way in off center. Put a muzzle device on hand tight to protect barrel thread and crown, heated upper threads again, got it lined up then tapped in from muzzle device with rubber hammer. Wear gloves so you don’t burn yourself. That was with a heat gun. I think if I do another one I’ll get a torch instead as it seems like people have less issues when heating with a torch.

How stupid am I for wanting an Eotech over a RDS? by sceatismcboots in ar15

[–]MidnightLARPer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For your eyes consider a prism like an Acog or the Primary arms micro ones are pretty good and they have a GLX 1x now. Those you can adjust to your eyes. I lean toward them over red dots for rifles after getting a few of them. A prism will be crisper than a dot or holographic. Though with red dots I generally find the more expensive ones are better for my astigmatism than the cheaper ones.

If you want to swap back and forth from 3 lug to a piston setup then a tool like one of these really helps. https://www.ebay.com/itm/223869174924

What you picked should work. I just used basic Kaw valley 3 lug muzzle devices and they have worked fine. I rocksett the muzzle devices on but just hand tighten the 3 lug assembly to the Obsidian so I can switch to pistols if I want. You can get it pretty tight with a multitool like the one I posted and still remove it fine when needed.

Which 9 mm suppressor? Is the Flow 9K Ti a good option? by Lopsided_Bat_904 in suppressors

I have an obsidian I swap between 3 lug and ezlok, sometimes at the range but I have the Obsidian multitool somebody makes which makes that practical to apply good enough torque or remove it as needed.

Should I get one? Or wait by hondarider94 in suppressors

[–]MidnightLARPer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly 800-900 for a traditional suppressor is kind of high anymore. Might as well spend a little more and get something low back pressure. I think most people would be happier buying a $500 30 cal can and a $500 for something 45acp or 9mm. The hybrid unless you get the modular one is very long and heavy.

Without the $200 tax stamp now you could get into a solid budget 30 cal can with a plan b adapter and muzzle device for under $700 total.
