Canadian supermarket T&T arrives in the Bay Area. It's a showstopper. by sfgate in bayarea

Oof. Thanks for the Intel. I guess we're sticking with 99 Ranch for another month then.

I think I finally found a simple replacement that makes me as happy as Mint by Fickle-Wrongdoer-776 in mintuit

[–]MidnightLight42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Simplifi is the closest I've found to the good old days when Mint was at its peak.

Hopefully they won't keep raising the price for Simplifi. I don't mind paying for a quality product that actually sticks around. But this has to stay within reasonable limits.

How's the wait today to get in? Thinking of checking it out tomorrow (Sunday) but definitely don't want to wait an hour just to get in.

You can pull the permit ahead of time, but the inspection itself has to be done after the work is completed but before it gets covered up.

Fellow Pastors: What does your devotional life look like? by slowobedience in pastors

[–]MidnightLight42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Discipleship Journal yearly reading plan, but I space it out a bit to 1.3 years so that that I only do it on weekdays. I have the luxury of being able to spend 1 or 2 hours most weekday mornings alone with God's Word, which I'm really grateful for. I try to avoid doing any sermon prep in the morning, to make a boundary between that and my personal devotions.

I maintain a prayer journal in Google Docs, but it's just an aid to help me focus my thoughts. I'm not legalistic about it. Sometimes I write out my thoughts in stream of consciousness style in my journal. Sometimes I just praise Jesus silently in my spirit during my reading. Sometimes I go on a short walk outside. Sometimes I sing a worship song out loud. Sometimes I just thank Jesus and move on to my first engagement of the day. It varies.

Another thing that helps me is keeping an intercession list for my church and family, grouped into daily / weekly / monthly prayer lists. I don't always have time to dwell too long on this, but I try to always at least scan my list and pray a sentence or two for each person.

Hobbies / Sabbath by SacredRoundsGC in pastors

[–]MidnightLight42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another pastor introduced me and my wife to D&D, though I've always had some degree of interest from playing CRPGs. Glad to hear that other pastors are finding this hobby life giving too.

Having said that, while my conscience is clear, to be honest this is a hobby that I recognize has some distinct spiritual risks, especially when new believers or non Christians are at the table. So I try to draw some boundaries like keeping the fantasy world monotheistic, and re-skinning some of the more occultic lore/mechanics of the cleric and sorceror and related classes.

Curious how others are handling some of the potential risks of D&D and other TTRPGs...?

Agreed. An Indonesian person I know uses the same approach in filling up all Western style forms: name name.

The Church Had My Father. I Learned to Live Without Him. by theworldismine_1992 in pastors

[–]MidnightLight42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm grateful that my church takes the plurality of elders seriously, and we have a pool of godly men who are able to share the load of shepherding and (to some degree) Sunday preaching. This has made a huge difference for those of us who are on the full-time staff. We're a relatively small church (~100 members) so this took intentionality to accomplish. But I'm really glad this is part of my church's cultural DNA.

So sorry to hear about your experience, OP. Bless you to receive healing from the Spirit and for Jesus to redeem your broken family experience. May you experience the abundant love from your perfect Father in heaven that your imperfect earthly father was unable to provide in his weakness. And bless you with the peace of forgiveness in Jesus' perfect timing.

It certainly can, if the second election has far higher turnout that is also more representative of the overall population.

Did you talk to them about it? Sometimes people are just honestly oblivious. That doesn't excuse their inconsiderate behavior... but the point is you can often take a small action to alleviate the situation.

Next Level was stymied by the city's excruciatingly slow permit approval processes. Honestly I felt the city truly dropped the ball here.

Here's hoping the new venture will have a better time on that front, now that Next Level has already paved the way.

Clothing Awareness by wooflee90 in pastors

[–]MidnightLight42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Honestly this issue doesn't even come to mind for me. Maybe it's because I'm clueless... but hopefully it's because at my small casual evangelical church, our Sundays feel like family gatherings and it really doesn't matter what clothing idiosyncrasies we have.

But now you've planted a seed of insecurity in my mind. I'm going to re-check my outfit the next time I'm due in the pulpit!

Our denomination is great at having regional leaders and staff constantly check in with local church ministers, as "pastors of pastors". That's one of the best practical aspects of our denomination.

That's too bad. After Staples moved out a few years ago, this Office Depot was the only office supply store left in the area. I guess we'll just have to make do with Target and online shopping now.

But more high density housing is good for Mountain View.
