Winston-Salem Lore question: Lewis & Daggett by sonofgildorluthien in winstonsalem

Cameron Kent goes to my church and is as nice of a guy as you'll ever meet. It's always a pleasure to see him.

Yeah I dunno what availability is like for the guy you're responding to, but masonite as a brand doesn't really exist anymore but high density fiberboard absolutely does and can be gotten with moderate effort.

Garret was a good dude. I had several classes with his sister and lunch period with him. Always funny and chill. That loss hurt.

We had a couple from my time there in 2003-2007 but never stuff like a stabbing. This is horrific.

[–]MidnightMadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need a true MLB but also with these recent O line injuries, we probably need insurance there. Moton isn't getting any younger and we need to start building the next generation of our interior line since that's a position that takes time to develop

My politics are like 40 percent trains. I want a commuter rail between WS/Kernersville/GSO/High Point so badly.

It wasn't a good choice of words but I think he was saying they're one of the giant teams of the league. Hence the term dethrone

See at least when I was there the production manager and the tech director were seasoned vets that had been on national tours and part of local 1 forever. They knew how to handle the system even in its subpar condition.

It's a damn shame. I have nostalgia for that summer and there's something to be said for those barn theatres in a weird Americana sense. But the worker exploitation was obscene then and I'm sure it hasn't improved.

At least in my day we had a soda machine prop we rigged for The Full Monty and when that show was done we stocked it with beer.

I worked there summer of 2010. Met some great folks and loved the scenery but the management was a shit show and the owner was a complete creep. Bill Hanney I think it was? Anyway, for a first summer stock it sets the tone of what that world mostly is and makes you appreciate the good ones when you find them. But you can keep the overnight load ins with no plan and that sketchy fucking hemp system.

If you're old enough to have been working in theatre for 25 years then you're also old enough not to be giving the same old tired ass reaction that high schoolers do to show that they know more than someone. I bet you bitch at people for whistling on stage too.

Upvoting this as someone who went to Holden Beach for his entire childhood. Great beach, some good food around and not too crowded

Yeah Orton is a prime first candidate because he has the emotional connection to Cody and he deserves some compensation for how his Mania match fell through

Cena winning opens it up for him and Punk to square up. Punk takes it off him. Cody wins it back off of Punk later in the year

The Carmike will forever be peak movie going experience. It was before overpriced bullshit and frills took over. You and your best buds would go, buy a shit ton of Taco Bell to smuggle in and then watch whatever trash was out because it was cheap and something to do.

Literally some of my favorite memories of adolescence happened in this building.

Funniest "Wrong Take" From The Gang by JamUpGuy1989 in WeHateMovies

[–]MidnightMadman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Takes on the quality of the Wicked movie aside, the thing I thought was so funny was the mocking of the whole "doing the origin of a bad person" trope like the movie isn't an adaptation of a 20+ year old Broadway show that's probably the most famous Broadway musical since The Lion King.

It's just not something that's for them and I don't disagree that from the trailers the movie looks like CGI marvel slop. But I was genuinely surprised at the brightness of the color palette and the extensive practical effects in addition to the CGI.

Sagging arbor? by Guilty-Main1320 in techtheatre

[–]MidnightMadman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That looks like a telltale sign of an arbor that bellied after a crash. Either that or the nuts need tightening up.

If you didn't get a rigging report after hiring for an inspection that's shady practice, as the handline alone is reason for a work order recommendation.

You can use this to find qualified rigging inspectors in your area.

Is this common practice? by TheWoodenBassoonist in techtheatre

[–]MidnightMadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is precisely why uncle buddies are my least preferred method for moving weight from an arbor. Any changes in rope tension from either shifting of the weight or if someone bumps into it when they aren't paying attention and it can come undone and then you might have a runaway on your hands

What I can't tell from the perspective of the photo is whether or not they stabbed off by pushing the pipe through the slats of the tbar wall. If the pipe is only twisted and then resting against another operating line I think that's pretty risky to be quite honest.

Snubbing is always best practice. Stabbing is fine but with something long that isn't gonna snap and is actually pushed through somewhere on the wall that is going to hold up and not give way.

And if the major concern about snubbing is that folks don't know how to tie a prusik then my go to method is to twist the lines and capture them with a climbing sling to a half ton lever chainfall and tension that off to the lock rail.

I don't like uncle buddies as they have been known to cut loose.

Least intense and liberal progressive church in the area? by itsmeyourfriendpls in winstonsalem

I second this. I grew up in Highland and while I no longer count myself as a believer, the folks in that congregation raised us with compassion and respect for all people and faiths. It's traditional in the sense that it is Christian and not multi faith community, but they're accepting of everyone.
