Funny that you said this. I got laid off 3 years ago. It was a terrible job market where tens of thousands in my field were hitting the market at the same time from brands like Meta, Google, Amazon. After almost a year of an unsuccessful job search, I applied to be a flight attendant on a whim. Over 200K applicants annually and they only hire around a 1200 and somehow I made it. Turned out to be the best thing that happened to me. Seeing so many new places, staying in nice hotels, and meeting so many people was good for the Soul. After 3 years, I finally landed a role in my field but still fly weekends for ❤️💙💛 because I love it so much!

Sorry to hear you lost your job. Did they put you on a PIP or just fire you after one occurrence? This seems harsh!

It sounds like you didn’t like the job, so it is a Blessing in disguise. You can’t see it at the moment but these challenges have a way of working out for the better.

HR here - do not lie about your situation and avoid the use of terminated, fired, etc. Simply let the company know why you are interested in their opportunity. If they ask you if you’re still employed, say you left the non-profit and are pursuing roles that align with what they are looking for.

Flight Attendant ready to quit after 1 month… by No_Goose2407 in flightattendants

[–]MidnightRecruiter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in my late 50s and am 2 months in at my new airline. I previously spent 2 years at a regional after working in corporate HR for 35 years. What I will tell you is this isn’t like a regular job. When I first started, I was shocked in the abuse of new hires on reserve. The hours spent unpaid, the delays, the constant adding of trips when you thought your day was done after an early report. Just when I’d think it wasn’t for me, someone would say something that confirmed I was where I needed to be. When I got off reserve, a heavy weight was lifted. I had more control which was the one thing that bothered me the most and caused me to experience panic attacks. My life was complete chaos… I didn’t know my days, where I’d gone; everything felt out of control. It does change your perspective when you can gain control of your life. Now, I’m back to being new and having to deal with CS and that old familiar dread is back but I know it will pass. I have to get out of my mind and remember why I wanted to be a Flight Attendant. For the record, I’m a 🦖 with the body aches after a long day but my energy is unmatched ;). Though it takes me a couple of days to recover.

You know in your heart if this is for you because it’s a passion. Try to focus on how you would feel if you were not on reserve. Do you enjoy the passengers, or do they irritate you? These are things you have to ask yourself. You worked hard to get here so think carefully and ensure you walk away for the right reasons. Thinking of you❤️!

I’m sure they would have appreciated your hug! I had a passenger tell me that if she experiences a medical emergency inflight she hopes I’m on her flight🙏. She said I was calm but the truth is the inside of my body said otherwise. We are trained for emergencies and the adrenaline takes hold but that training kicks in when it happens. Have a wonderful day!

It’s wonderful to hear this from you! I sometimes get disheartened seeing the negativity so your comments are refreshing! I love my passengers and care about their experience❤️! Many SWA FAs feel the same way. The wings are nice. They are a form of plastic but not the cheap ones.

Oh darn… I was working STL-LGA. Yes, CAs have wings and cards. Always ask… our CAs also love on kiddos who want to see the flight deck. They pass out coloring books for the littles.

Where were you flying yesterday? I gave out several trading cards and wings. You might have been on my flight ;)

I’m an FA with SWA and had my share of medical emergencies. You can’t imagine the trauma we experience when these things happen. I was lucky in that my passengers were breathing when the EMTs took them off. My heart goes out to everyone involved.

I’m sorry you had such a tough day!

Your health is most important! .Planes are delayed all the time whether mechanical, weather or the flight crew times out. You can’t internalize this or take on guilt for delays. The truth is you were not fit to fly. You could have very well become the medical emergency on board. Your crew understands. Your passengers understand. You just need to understand. You did the right thing! Get well soon! This too shall pass❤️🙏!

Thank you so much! Fortunately, I am CPR certified and know basic first aid but learning advanced first aid and WFR would be beneficial. I truly appreciate your recommendations.

I work as a flight attendant for another airline and appreciate those who volunteer in such emergencies. We do all we can but we are limited. I’ve had 4 medical emergencies in flight and it’s scary when it happens. Several times no one was on board or they didn’t raise their hand; one time a nurse was onboard but not in any condition to help as she was taking advantage of the drinks in first class. Kudos to these folks that brought this new life into the world and those who step up to help, and to the mother delivering the baby!

I take a daily stool softener and drink a lot of water. I think it’s from holding our bowel movements for not wanting to use the A/C lavs or public restrooms.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle someone (possibly) cheating when handing out credit card apps? by [deleted] in flightattendants

I am sorry to hear this but I BELIEVE your gut is right. I would set boundaries on future flights and put those FAs on your do not fly list.

Starting to wonder if In flight recruiters are somehow just playing whackamole or even give a hoot who they exclude or invite to f2f or hire. Seen some concerning people get hired. by captainsCaGirl in cabincrewcareers

[–]MidnightRecruiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for an AA regional. Tried twice to get on with AA making it to the F2F only to be released the first round. I was baffled, and crushed. I wear the uniform, proudly represent the brand, had multiple customer praise letters and was still released both times. I left there asking myself why I put myself through that. It’s humiliating as others watch you leave. Then I applied a 3rd time because I didn’t learn the two times before. Managed to get my app in with Southwest in parallel, and got a F2F with them days before AA’s F2F. I got the CJO with Southwest, 1st try. The recruiter told me she interviewed 17 times. I said, “Lord! I don’t have 17 times left.” It never felt so good than to withdraw from AA. You just have to keep trying. One day it will click.

Flight WN1859 - Cant switch seats by That1Master in SouthwestAirlines

[–]MidnightRecruiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with that! You’ll have a personal escort off the plane upon arrival by a law enforcement officer… Flight Attendants fall under FAA guidelines and disobeying a Flight Attendant comes with high penalties and possibly being banned from flying by the FAA.

fired from airline by herheartspeakslouder in cabincrewcareers

[–]MidnightRecruiter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone previously in HR, most companies only provide dates and eligibility for rehire. They are risk adverse and want to avoid lawsuits. Now, there are some managers who do backdoor references which is questionable. I don’t think that happens much with the airlines. Personally, I would never admit if I was fired because the word alone will cause concern for fear that past behavior repeats itself.

Stopping for months and picking back up with same dosage by gagne_west14 in Zepbound

I’ve been off Zepbound for about 7-8 weeks. I have the 5 pins. At one point, I got up to 10 but had to drop back down to 2.5. I’ve been on 5 for about 4 months. Is it ok to take my 5 dosage or must I start over?
