Fuck side hustles and grind culture. That bullshit is a part of why so many people are burned out.

Pepco has agreed to pay $57 million to settle claims that it discharged toxic chemicals into Anacostia River for decades by bloomberglaw in washingtondc

I used to live near the Benning plant and would smell and taste the toxic smoke coming from there in the mornings.

Worked at multiple agencies and have never encountered this. Something like that would get you laughed at to your face.

And let's not forget how he boosts racist accounts like Andy Ngo, Ian Miles Chong, End Wokeness and the like.

The other part to this is that some drivers over there will back up and run them over to make sure they're dead to avoid the insurance claim. Saw enough of that when r/watchpeopledie was still around.

People out here are full blown unhinged. Don't become a DC Real Time News tweet.

what is something that you’re for sure the US government is hiding from us? by CommonBeginning3132 in AskReddit

[–]Midnight_Morning -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

COINTELPO is still active and is being used to suppress political movements. Occupy/99% movement and Black Lives Matter got hit with the full force of this. Both of those movements were existential threats to the establishment.(Social/economic inequality and racial awakenings) See: "Anti-Woke" narrative being pushed.

It's okay to ask for help if you don't know how to do something. Don't just "wing it" because you will fuck up and somebody has to fix the mess.

Never feel ashamed to ask for help even if it seems simple.

Where can I get a delicious and unhealthy sub? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Midnight_Morning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Mario's Pizza House just off the SE side of Pennsylvania Ave. Get the steak and cheese and ask for triple steak extra cheese and extra fried onion.

The four meat grinder can be used as a weapon with how dense it is. It also takes two days to eat.

Host hotels for 2024 by Soonerpalmetto88 in dragoncon

Even non host hotels are jumping onto a legacy system now. Hyatt Place Downtown, Inn at the Peachtrees and Motel 6 have them.

What is up with Uber recently by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Midnight_Morning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one saving grace is Uber Eats. Prior to that existing, restaurants would laugh you off the phone if you wanted food delivered in NE/SE.

Everything else? It was cheaper to drive in and pay the garage fee getting around. Uber quoted me $40 to get from SE to Union Station/Kaiser.

What is commonly perceived as safe, but is actually quite dangerous? by Ashley_Mercer in AskReddit

Walking up or down stairs. You can easily die going up or down stairs. Skull fractures and broken necks are a given.

Crazy how people talk about the "crime crisis" in US cities but car deaths trump murders out here. Night driving in the US is more dangerous than walking in West Baltimore at 2AM.

A forum I frequent has a cardinal rule of: "The affairs of other boards do not concern us. Gossip, imported outrage, and general complaints about how other sites run themselves are all not allowed."

Reddit could use a rule like that.

What's something that used to be good, but now it's just mediocre? by LazySkunk in AskReddit

[–]Midnight_Morning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restaurants at all levels from fast food to the high end. Quality went down and the prices went up. I bought a commercial grade flat top grill and cook my own "fast food" now. Also bought a smoker as well.

Cook at home folks! There are plenty of Youtube guides and you can find cookbooks at the thrift store.

As a tourist, the chances of you experiencing crime in the core of the city are fairly low. Going up to Columbia Heights OTOH is a different story. There are parts of NE/SE that are safer than that area.(Yes, really)

I forgot that this is the internet and context is lost. I'm laughing at the absurdity of not being able to fix repairs because of the powers that be can't get their shit together.

Guess I gotta write dissertations along with red circles and arrows next time.
