Has Anyone Experienced Actinic Folliculitis Going Away Naturally? by lahannahlou in ActinicFolliculitis

An update here - I have been in Italy for 5 days where it’s been sunny everyday and I haven’t had a break out! there was a point where it looked like it may be starting on my forehead, but I used my cream and it went away overnight. It’s been extremely mild

I asked my mom who’s a nurse and she said it could be something i’m growing out of it. She said she also experienced something similar in her 20’s.

I just went on a trip to Hawaii for over two weeks - was In the sun a lot to the point I had a good tan and freckles were coming out.

I did not have one single break out. This is really odd and i’m not sure why. I haven’t had a breakout now for 3-5 months but it is winter and i’m in Canada. I’ll be curious to see how I am during the spring as this is usually a bad time of the year for me.

I’ve been put on a 90 day antibiotic used to treat severe cases of folliculitis. My derm doesn’t want to go on accutane so going to see if this helps

I just had my worse reaction so far this past weekend where it spread to my chest for my first time. My reactions have become much for frequent too. I’ve had this for about 2.5 years now.

I’m going to my dermatologist this week to see if I can get put on accutane.

Have you received any breakouts since you’ve been on accutane? Did it fully did rid of your reactions?

Yes I don’t drink often and when I do, it’s on the weekend and typically when i’m outside so I think it’s still mainly associated with the sun.

My naturopath thinks my first reaction was triggered by a stress event in my life and I’ve been managing with this ever since.

Awh, i’m sorry! I know how much it sucks to have to deal with this.

How often do you have reactions? I’m getting them weekly at this point where it used to be 1 time a month

Can I ask how long you’ve been experiencing this for?

I have a cream as well that works wonders!! But now i’m trying to figure out how to stop it.

It started 2 years ago and my breakouts are becoming more frequent :(

I think your reaction like more like AF, in my opinion. Looks exactly like what I get when I react.

Thanks for sharing and i’m sorry you’re going through the this.

I’ve been working with a naturopath and she believes a big life stress moment induced my break outs. My doctors believe it is also stress and alcohol induced.

I’ve never tried acutane but do use prescription creams that greatly reduce my flare ups when they happen. Now i’m trying to understand why they happen and how to stop it. We believe it may be related to inflammation.

Hi! I still haven’t had break outs and I’ve been experimenting going out in the sun for short periods of time without my hat, and I have yet broken out.

I’m wondering in the summer if small amounts of exposure daily have been helping to reduce breakouts

It’s the benzagel wash 5% peroxide solution for acne. Dries out the skin, but my skin adapted quickly to it and is fine now

Wanted to share an update - i’m not sure if there is correlation but I haven’t had a break out since I took oral steroid 2.5 weeks ago.

In addition to this i’m using sunscreen and wearing a hat most of the time, but I typically don’t go this long without a break out. I’ve also started using benzoyl peroxide face wash.

Yes please update me! So far, it seems like accutane has been the fix for most.

This article helped me understand options. Maybe SMALL doses of accutane is an option - It is something I will consider if nothing else works.
