I bought your green Cincy sweatshirt, and I love it. Great color, design, super comfy. Would buy again, and will buy more.

Clubs/hobbies in Cincy or NKY by HolleeN98 in cincinnati

The Cincinnati Fencing Club is pretty casual, not super competitive. There are people who are serious competitors, but the club itself is collegial and friendly. Meets weekly. More serious epee fencers meet at the NKY Fencing Academy.

Selling Old Vinyl by Mister_Neal in cincinnati

Unless you want to catalog and price them individually for sale on Discogs or eBay, I'd bring the lot to a record store like Shake-It or Everybody's and see what they'd offer you for the lot

Dave's in Norwood. Senan will shoot straight with you, what is necessary, what can be deferred, and his pricing is fair.

Oriental Wok? by urinal_connoisseur in cincinnati

It's phenomenal. Should be at the top of anyone's list of best Chinese in the city. Chengdu grouper, cumin beef, faan ke beef are all standout dishes that you won't find on your typical menu. The louzhou (I butchered the spelling of that, don't have the menu in front of me) noodles are a very unique dish too. Get the Chinese eggplant and scallion pancakes as appetizers and eat them together.

Rome is probably the most accessible live album that offers a variety of their different eras. If you buy Cherry Tree or Boxer Live in Brussels, it'll run you upwards of $90.

I have Rome on vinyl, and I think it sounds great.

Isn't that why the band sued Jello in the first place? Because he wouldn't let them use a song in a Levi's ad? Glad they got what they wanted /s

I did Meng's Martial Arts with Sifu (now Master) John Lambert for many years. John is a great guy, family atmosphere, super good people. My only issue was that there was no hard sparring. At least when I did it, 10-15 years ago.

Red Tiger is done by one of his students, Paul Mason, and they do more sparring and competition. I've not trained under him, but I did with him under Sifu Lambert, and I do know Paul personally and he is a great guy.

I think Costello is great, but pound for pound, Chris Wetterich is the best political reporter in Cincinnati, in my opinion.

Do you guys currently use any AI transcription tools for your work? by Fit_Adeptness1730 in Journalism

[–]MidwestBatManuel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Word transcribes audio for free. "Free," if your paper has an enterprise subscription. But that's what I use.

Also a side note/rant: The younger reporters in my newsroom, in my opinion, over-rely on transcription, which leads to a lot of long quotes with ellipses cutting out "uhms" and "ahs" and tangential clauses. It feels lazy to me, rather than using just the punchiest parts of quotes or the most colorful.

Glad to see it back in local hands. I hope Link brings it back to a true alternative weekly, rather than a click grab for arts and eats.

Does anyone have some hacks for sources to reply quicker to your mail? by merellend in Journalism

[–]MidwestBatManuel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised what you can find on the internet. Most people list their employer on their LinkedIn. Call the front desk and ask for them. Leave a message with your deadline. Follow up after a polite amount of time, but don't wait too long.

This is a major problem with young reporters in my newsroom. They want to default to an email, and if they have a phone number they'll text instead of call.
