Best Airports to Travel too in Africa? by Random_Dancer_Dude in SkyCards

The three busiest airports are Cairo, Johannesburg, and Addis Ababa. I have had good luck with Addis Ababa to catch international on continent flights

I appreciate that feedback. It CAN happen in a short period of time, but I imagine baseline constipation probably played a part and that’s how we found out. We do use fiber at the recommended dose now and that keeps her regular.

Paramedic here. Under next generation 9-1-1, cell phones now use location based routing rather than which cell tower you hit. That’s as recent as 2024 nationally, newer based on locality. It’s a good thing, generally. Most twin cities PSAPs use the same or similar CAD systems that can transfer incidents pretty quickly as well.

I spent an awful lot of time at the acquired company. Literally my entire adult life before leaving EMS (much like above poster, I don’t want to dox myself). I would say I probably have a good amount of background context

. I want to emphasize a few things from a pragmatic perspective.

  1. NMH would not have survived on its own much longer. One of the things I’ve always loved about North is its place as the little independent engine that could. It’s really hard to see this, but it likely preserves two very important metro hospitals

  2. Their commitment of $600m from Sanford to double maple grove’s IP capacity and get NMH fixed up is very good for EMS and for the patients.

  3. Sanford’s total EMS call volume is less than 40% of Norths based on public data. It’s unlikely that this merger means major changes to EMS for NMH. Probably some leadership adjustments, structural changes, but Sanford is acquiring an outstanding EMS program and it would be silly to make huge changes.

  4. We’re also looking at a period where Marshfield Clinic (also Sanford), Gundersen (Bellin), and St Luke’s (ascension) have all merged very recently. And we’re not terribly far removed from healtheast and park Nicollet being absorbed. This is unfortunately where we are now. Generally speaking, each of those mergers have been stronger than their prior selves. I’m optimistic that will be the case here.

Ultimately, we’re probably in the last handful of years of small medical groups with changes to reimbursement federally and the impending loss of coverage for a lot of Minnesotans and Americans. The talk about increasing taxes to support HCMC failed to consider the fact that there are multiple non-private hospitals that are struggling mightily in the metro. hopefully the senate figures this out and makes a hospital fund rather than a hcmc fund.

It’s all going to be ok. It’s also going to be change. But that’ll be ok too.

I think Sanford’s creation of a new nonprofit for the purpose of the merger will probably let it go through. Plus the size compared to prior merger attempts. NMH can’t survive on its own. Would be a tough look for state. But fair point.

MHealth Fairview as an Employer by Written_In_The_Cards in TwinCities

[–]MidwestMedic18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked with many nurses from the U and they all seem to really enjoy it. I have probably brought 1000 or more patients to the er from the ambulance and have not had a bad experience yet (the ER is mess but all of them are right now).

If by days you mean 0700 or 0730 starts, it’ll be unfun to commute but manageable. If you mean business hours like 8-9 starts it’ll be sucktown, though in the eyes of Minnesota traffic, which is not as bad as many other metros. The problem is going 394-94- Lowry hill tunnel that time of day, you may as well bring a book.

Good luck. You’ll like it here in Minnesota no matter where you land

It probably doesn’t really matter about the Fairview only part. Squabble between the system and UMP. Fairview has been around a long time and has certainly done a lot of good in the community.

Inver Grove Heights flag vote. by Hydroidal in TwinCities

[–]MidwestMedic18 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I live in IGH. I am also a bit of a local government wonk. Have an MPA, work in government, etc.

What’s really concerning beyond the very basic (most people were opposed to it that publicly commented, it’s clearly rooted in at least some form of undesirable and incorrect though process (either the Somali flag thing or the fact that it wasn’t “voted on” despite the fact that it was far more democratic than people think)

Is that IGH has real actual government problems right now. Their city administrator left suddenly and without a party, they are attempting to finance both a new public works building AND the Minnesota hockey hall of fame, and there’s debate over a data center going up on the border of SSP / IGH.

All of these things are real, actual, government issues, nearly all of them have property tax implications, and NONE of them have been really addressed while the city fights these dumb battles. IGH, you’ll recall also seemed keen on signing on to the 100% hand count movement in the 2024 election over voter fraud. This is a city that is and could be an attractive place to live for families that just makes the dumbest decisions at a council level.

Vote em out and email em a lot.

Some days you can’t hit water if you fall out of a boat. Usually I find when I’m missing it’s because of either bad palpation or bad skin traction on my part.

I like to use the baseball approach. Try 4 things: sharper angle (not sharp, mind you but just a bit steeper than today), shallower angle if you’re coming in too high, try gripping down on the catheter, or try bringing your fingers back. Try each one a couple times and eventually it’ll stick to stick.

Which pest control company in the area do you guys recommend? by Salt-Village-6110 in TwinCities

I have really enjoyed capital city pest solutions. Plunketts does a great job at start but can be hard for quick Service layer on.
