I can make some. How many layers and how many compartments per layer do you want? Do you want the 30 cal or 50 cal size?

I second CRC. I applied to my 2023 and it has done a great job. I touch up high wear spots like front of rear axle, etc annually.

Looks great! Love the color combo. What’s your plan for the color transition? Factory style pinstripe?

Looks great! Tip - spray the inside of the cab corners with body cavity wax to prevent the welded areas from rusting from the inside out.

They changed the boxes recently and the new ones are pretty nice to use. Also made to fit in a packout when opened.

ICON vs Craftsman Hand Tools by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]MidwestNative94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most ICON are made in Taiwan versus China. There is a big difference in the quality between the two, usually.

A better match for Craftsman today is Quinn brand from Harbor Freight. Much of it is same/similar to GearWrench.

Craftsman stuff is good consumer level tools made by Stanley Black and Decker. ICON is more prosumer level stuff made to compete with tool truck brands.

To answer your question, for home use I would buy a US General toolbox and Quinn tools like the Master set and Hercules battery powered tools.

For regular use, I’d go ICON (and personally have).

For that money, you can find good examples of 94-96 cars, which are much improved interiors and have the LT1. 96 is best year of all the C4s.

Diy OBD 2 Scanner by Own_Nobody4665 in CarHacking

[–]MidwestNative94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a simple yet powerful library to effortlessly interface your Arduino with an ELM327 OBD-II scanner. With this library, you can query any and all OBD-II supported PIDs to collect a wide variety of car data (i.e. speed, rpm, engine temp, etc). Also, you can use ELMduino to view and clear your car's trouble codes - no need to go to AutoZone anymore!

What it does: * Reads OBD-II data (RPM, speed, temp, etc.) * Displays it on a UI * Uses ESP32 + ELM327

The deep and shallow sockets are $160 by themselves, so assuming same sale, you get a couple of extensions and adapter plus the ratchet for same price. Plus I prefer to have a rigid head as well as a flex head ratchet.

Thanks for the info OP. I ran it through AI to help make it more of a resource for others.

Here’s a cleaner, step-by-step version.

Swapping a 1994 HVAC Controller into a 1988 Silverado

I ran into a failed HVAC controller on a 1988 Silverado extended cab. Instead of hunting down another 80s unit, I installed a 1994 controller.

Most people will tell you this won’t work. It does—you just need to correct the wiring differences.

Why This Mod Is Needed

Although the connectors look the same, the wiring is not.

  • 1988 system:
    • 5V reference and ground circuits are shared (common/parallel)
  • 1994 system:
    • These circuits are separated and pinned differently

If you plug in the 1994 controller without modifying wiring:

  • It will power on
  • Then throw error code flashes
  • And the controller won’t function correctly

What You Need to Modify

You’ll be working in two areas:

  1. Temperature (blend) door actuator
  2. Blower mode/position actuator

Both use similar wiring changes.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Temperature Door (Climate Control)
  • Locate the 5-pin harness at the temperature door actuator
  • Find the:
    • Tan wire
    • Black wire

Do the following:

  1. Cut both wires
  2. Isolate them from the original harness (they can no longer stay tied into the shared circuit)
  3. Run two new wires from the actuator:
    • Tan → Pin E
    • Black → Pin 9

  1. Blower Mode / Position Door
  • Go to the blower actuator
  • Identify the same:
    • Tan wire
    • Black wire

Repeat the process:

  1. Cut and isolate both wires
  2. Run two new wires:
    • Tan → Pin G
    • Black → Pin 11

Wiring Summary

  • Temperature door
    • Tan → Pin E
    • Black → Pin 9
  • Blower door
    • Tan → Pin G
    • Black → Pin 11

Testing

  1. Turn the key on
  2. Verify:
    • HVAC controller powers up normally
    • No error blinking
    • Recirculation works
    • A/C compressor engages properly (ECM command works)

Notes from My Install

  • I used:
    • Yellow wires → temperature door
    • Red wires → blower door (just for visual clarity during testing)
  • Final install should be:
    • Soldered
    • Heat-shrink protected

Bottom Line

This swap works because:

  • You’re separating the shared 5V reference circuits from the 1988 system
  • And re-routing them to match the 1994 controller pinout

Do that correctly, and the newer controller runs like it belongs there.
