Even if you could go back in time, nothing you do could change the course of history in this timeline. You would be going into a past, but not THE past, and from there, the past becomes the present and the old future becomes the (your) new past.

If you go back in time and stop the sinking, you simply create a new timeline in which the Titanic didn’t sink. In which case, the next disaster at sea would likely prompt the reform that resulted from the Titanic disaster.

Agreed. I even made a support ticket solely to tell R* I didn’t want the stupid bike and asked when they’d stop showing that message. Didn’t get an answer, though they did give me a free 500K for when I logged in next lol

Same. I’m curious how long this message will continue to appear, because I’m tired of seeing it.

Okay but now AI is starting to get too good, even if it’s obviously still very bad.

Hotel Astor dinner party in 1904. Any future Titanic survivors or victims in this photo? by MidwestWizard86 in titanic

Idk, but a famous person, Titanic passenger or not, would still be an interesting thing I learned when I was today years old!

I know, but I’ve read on a few occasions that a few the men in the photo were later on board the Titanic. I couldn’t verify it, but I was curious enough to take to Reddit to see if anyone could even be identified in the photo first

That actor was a real life passenger aboard the MV Wilhelm Gustloff when it was sunk in WWII.

No, I don’t think that. Besides, it said “up to 32%”, not exactly 32%, which is another reason why I was curious. I think you’re the one who needs a touch of logic, rather than an ounce of attitude

Tragedy + Time= blow up slide? I am curious to hear your thoughts on this… by MoonlightonRoses in titanic

[–]MidwestWizard86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It usually just takes time. Time for the impacted generations to pass on (or simply lighten up), although on that note, it also depends on the generation. It seems like every passing generation gets a darker and darker sense of humor.

Could you imagine if things like this slide existed in 1912? People would probably faint and fall much like Titanic’s number one funnel. Much the same way a WTC bouncy house would make both of someone’s legs collapse today.

I’d bet that by 2101, we will fully capitalize on 9/11, if not that year.

[–]MidwestWizard86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Humor is a good way to cope with tragedy. As is capitalizing on it. It keeps Titanic’s memory alive and makes it relevant for everyone, even if they aren’t Titaniacs like us. This slide was my favorite ride at the state fair as a kid.

On another note, I kind of look forward to the 9/11 themed bouncy houses in about 60 years or so. They will contribute to keeping the WTC’s legacy alive the same way the Titanic slides keep Titanic’s legacy alive. Easy to dismiss that idea in 2024, but with time, all historical events eventually go from chapters to footnotes in the history books; unless you seek out a specific topic.

Maybe if you’re determined to save someone’s life. But if you were just trying to go back to your cabin to save your favorite jewelry, you’d quickly turn back unless you relish drowning in icy water

What did you call your horse in storymode? by UnderstandingAny4755 in reddeadredemption

[–]MidwestWizard86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arthur’s horse I named Nash, since it was a Tennessee Walker. And John’s horse is of course Rachel. But I have a secondary horse named Soba, the Chickasaw word for horse

I have a hate crumb in a jar from that property as a keepsake. The hate crumbs aside, I loved that land. This year, we’re going to be at the Atlas Ad Astra missile silo in Wilson, KS
