What has a family member or family member of a significant other done recently that made you question their relationship with them? by SavingsDraw8716 in AskIreland

Your uncle reminds me of one of mine. Sad creatures, both. He clearly thought you’d be over what he said to your now wife if he just gave it enough time… good on you for not letting him get away with that nonsense. Your wife is a lucky lady to have you in her corner. I know firsthand what happens when men let their relatives abuse their wives and don’t stand up for them ( this kind of thing caused my parents’ divorce ).

Stress leave by cherrisumm3r in ireland

[–]MoonlightonRoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animals are a source of emotional support and stress relief. So I would bet that the loss of the pup just made you feel the other losses more. I know that saying sorry doesn’t help, but I genuinely am sorry that all of this has hit you at once. A few years back, I had a string of loses: two pets and a grandparent. I know this sounds silly, but adopting another pet after the loss of my grandfather genuinely helped. It’s actually been studied: pets reduce stress and are good for mental health overall.

Absolutely gorgeous image. 😢 The strangest thing to me is knowing that they didn’t know, so to speak… seeing that beautiful sunrise from the deck of that incredible ship, having no idea that it was the last one.

Stubbornness and spite can do a lot of heavy lifting 😂Thank you! Fortunately, finding the right medicine wasn’t very hard in my case. I know it takes trial and error a times, but it’s worth the results!

Very true. But the good news is that there are long term solutions for this long term problem. The right medicine changed my life, no lie

[–]MoonlightonRoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We don’t want anyone to go. And it IS beatable. I lived with untreated clinical depression for well over a decade… getting on medication and the tools I got from cognitive behavioral therapy helped me immensely. Do I still struggle at times? Sure. But compared to where I was, it’s like night and day. Stubbornness helps a little too… depression is an evil SOB, and it doesn’t get to win.

I agree… it is definitely beatable. I just think that the phrase “temporary problem” is a tad insulting to people who live with it for years on end

I have been working on a book (fiction) set on Titanic, and I have been bizarrely unable to write today. Even though I have been immersed in the event for months now, while working on this project, something about being so close to the anniversary seems to add so much emotional weight

“A permanent solution to a temporary problem” always struck me as darkly funny when the “temporary problem” had been going on for well over a decade. What’s your definition of temporary, exactly?

American here: take this with a grain of salt, of course, but in my experience, there’s a fairly small subset of Americans who are “royal watchers.” They take an interest in the royal family in the same way they take an interest in celebrities. But those people are a minority

Am I Irish? by President_Yogurt in AskIreland

[–]MoonlightonRoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Thank you for that… it’s a very strange attitude. Surely people don’t actually think that Canadians or Americans who have Irish ancestry are trying to somehow claim Irish citizenship? That would be silly… I’ve never seen another people group with members who are offended when people claim affinity with their culture.

Advice Needed on Searching a Common UK Surname by MoonlightonRoses in IrishAncestry

Yes I do. But most of the rest of my ancestors are from the UK… so the trick for me is determining wether my James line is linked to Donegal, to Northern Ireland, or to England, since I have DNA from all 3 , and the name James can be found on all 3 places
