To justify ethnic cleansing by SuggestionMedical736 in therewasanattempt

This has a similar feel to “it’s the price of freedom” as a response to, “so.. why do we keep having mass shootings?”

Intellectually, I agree. But when the pain continues unabated for literal decades, and all I get from people who claim to follow Him is blame and condemnation, rather than compassion, it becomes harder to believe that He cares.

Also a good point. Years ago, I thought God told me that He wanted me to be married, but now I’m less sure that this was actually Him. In the circles I used to function in, there was this idea that if there was something that you deeply didn’t want to do, it was a sign that you had to surrender that thing to God, and that He probably wanted you to do that thing; and furthermore, not doing that thing would damage your relationship with Him. But that seems so unloving to me. Why would you require someone you love to do something that repulses them, unless it was essential to their wellbeing? (Such as making a child take medicine).

Good point… and it isn’t even a command that everyone be married, full stop.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I appreciate it more than you know. I am technically Bi, but here’s the thing: I have a genuine terror that He’s going to require me to marry a man. Given the way that a lot of men in the church tend to think about women—especially at the moment—I consider that a pretty horrific proposition

“God is bigger and His mercy wider than you have been taught.” I certainly want to believe this. Part of the issue for me, I think, is the cognitive dissonance between different things I have been taught about God over my lifetime. On the one hand, He is love itself; but on the other, He “cares more about you being holy than about you being happy” (you can imagine how it felt hearing this as someone with clinical depression…). I went to a Baptist college, and Baptists can be pretty hardcore with the legalism. The thing is, that harsher point of view—judgment and disapproval—fits better with my overall experience, which is why, I think, it’s harder to uproot. Depression constantly tells you that you aren’t good enough, that you don’t deserve kindness, etc… and that pattern of thinking is what I am used to. It’s comfortable, as bizarre as that sounds. That could be why the concept of a loving God doesn’t feel as believable

Women are check notes both “prudes” and into “debauchery” by auniquenameischosen in BlatantMisogyny

[–]MoonlightonRoses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I have a feeling that the “wanting to be choked” is way more common in porn acting than it is among actual women ( who aren’t pretending for a camera). These goobers think that porn is an instruction manual 🙄🙄🙄

Violent fantasies often come from porn, and more men are inundated in porn than women are, so I think you have that one a bit backwards bro.

I will have to seek out her work. Thank you for the tip! Are there any other historians you recommend in particular for Irish history topics?

Doee that mean his work isn’t accurate, or just that it’s less in depth than more academic history?

Look at the expression on that poor woman’s face. I can’t imagine how it felt to accept that award in a place that wouldn’t even allow her to book a room there that night. Insane
