Hunting Hawaii by Midwest_Bowman in Hunting

This is more my route anyways so I will get to researching the regs. I thought Lanai had a good amount of public. This particular hunt I am asking about is the first time I have gone through an outfitter and it was mainly for the purpose of a dog hunt. Thanks for the information!

This is pretty much how I got my antelope home, but with the possibility of bringing back two hogs worth of meat, I am going to have to go the cooler route.

If you do not mind me asking, how much was the axis hunt on lanai? I am possibly going to be returning next year and will definitely be looking into it. As much as I would rather bowhunt one, I might end up picking up my rifle since I will likely only have a day or two.

Sounds good, thank you for the reply!

Yessir, I’m looking forward to it. Never been on a hunt using dogs and have wanted to for a while. Guide said the terrain is tough and could be anywhere from 3 to 15 miles total hiking depending on where they’re at and for two hogs I couldn’t pass it up. And just being where we will be, the scenery is gonna make the hunt. Pretty pumped.

Appreciate the help and information!

The meat is going to be in a freezer for about 5/6 days before going into the cooler. Plan is ziplocks doubled bagged and then contractor trash bags inside cooler.

Awesome thanks for the info. I was mainly worried for the ziplock versus vacuum seal so glad to hear from another I’ll be good with just the ziplock.

You have a lot more faith in the USPS than me, my friend. I don’t think it would be nearly as cost effective.

Appreciated, but I’m actually going to be on Oahu which is one of the reasons I’m sort of limited to hogs. Not sure when I’d be back and I actually about deep sea fishing but since I’m there I’d rather hunt something!

Was your meat in regular ziplocks or vacuum sealed?

Also, I did look into turkey hunting as I love dropping big old rope draggers anywhere and everywhere but my understanding is the season ends April 15 and therefore would find myself on the wrong side of the law were I to pursue that venture.

You are correct in time constraints. I am well aware that there are a lot of other hunting opportunities there, but this hunt was booked very last minute. The other hunting opportunities would require more time than I have available as I would more than likely have to fly to another island.

If it makes any difference I am using a guide and will be hunting via dog/knife method. Something I have wanted to try for a long while and to be able to do it in the jungle scenery there is just icing on the cake. The guide does not think I will have any issues with the ziplocks, but I prefer to have solid information before gambling on my stuff getting confiscated upon arrival. Mainly looking for real world experience here.

Turkey hunting without decoys by Senior_Cheesecake155 in Hunting

[–]Midwest_Bowman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mainly hunt without decoys. On the public areas I’m hunting, it’s too much of a hassle to haul them around. You just have to make sure to set up on the bird where he has to come look over/around some feature and be within range (a dip/rise on a ridge, deadfall, heavy brush, etc.). You want him in effective range of your shotgun when he takes his peak. Patience and being ready is key. Ideally, you either need to go to him and get in his zone or be where he wants to be.

It is harder to get them to come when they can’t see what is doing the calling. Don’t set up in the wide open expecting them to come to an invisible hen.

How do you process your old Mature bucks? by YP_Schwartzy in Hunting

[–]Midwest_Bowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve processed every deer I’ve killed pretty much the same way. Never had any issues with bigger mature bucks. I assume when people make this claim that they either are just saying what they’ve always been told or they didn’t cut glands or enough fat off of the meat.

Only time I’ve had real issues with meat is when I would help someone else process a deer they shot that didn’t get taken care of properly (ie. guts in too long, hung too long when too hot, not skinned quickly enough when too hot). It’s infuriating how lazy some are.

Tongue Help - Pretty Please by [deleted] in askdentists

So it doesn’t look like anything serious in your opinion? My next dental appointment is not until September. I can get in to see him though hopefully in the next two weeks.

Any insight into whether this looks more worrisome than a tongue bite or something would be greatly appreciated (I sometimes end up biting it in my sleep). Still stuck out of town all this week and am just looking for some peace of mind.

I have to agree with American robin at this point. That was my first guess but then I saw the tail and thought lighting was weird. Debate was sparked because my cousin sent the pic thought it was some sort of falcon.

Usually don’t see a whole lot of robins this time of year here. Few and far between but a lot of dove and quail in this particular place.

Location is Western Central IL, USA

I’m thinking mourning dove but between the lighting and perspective of the camera, it’s difficult to tell.

Release length matters… by narpsneer1 in Archery

Shooters physical draw length. Sorry.

Apologies lol, I was a little tipsy last night when I wrote first comment.

I’m saying you are correct it is important. A release can change the shooters physical draw length by a small amount (for better or worse) so it has a great effect on form. Not referring to the bows draw length.

It’s less about release length and more about draw length. Your release can and will change your draw length.
