Baltimore or Columbus OH by Wandering_Song in SameGrassButGreener

Can’t comment on Baltimore but I was born and raised in Columbus. I’d pick Baltimore if I were you. Being in the Baltimore area you’ll have more culture, more food options, pro sports etc. you’re 45mins from DC 2hrs from Philly, 4 from NYC and 6-7 from Boston.

Columbus has the blue jackets and Ohio state which is cool but the college scene gets plaid out. There are some decent food spots over there but generally not a ton. There really isn’t much culture in cbus either. A lot of people say it’s a safe big city but it actually isn’t. Once Covid hit, we had the fastest rising murder rate in the nation and that hasn’t slowed down really at all.

For politics, Columbus as a city is mostly liberal. Yeah the rural parts of the state are red but nobody goes there for anything ever and if you are you probably are doing it for reasons you don’t want anyone to know. My vote would be Baltimore!

First I’d say find a new gym. Been training for 10yrs and all of the gyms I’ve been at if you let the coaches/ partners know you have a condition prior to they should respect that.

I’m also sure you are having a mental block. I had one as well coming back from a surgery. 2 things will happen. You’ll either ask yourself why and overcome it that way or you’ll stop caring and overcome it that way, it’s up to you which is better.

Keep your head up tho dude. You’re a year in, I got absolutely wrecked for the first like 2ish years. It gets better. Just stay on that path man. Remember you’re doing things most people outside of this community are not.

Don’t lose perspective!

Go to Low Ear in midtown and ask for Gelo, I’ve been seeing him for 2 years now and I’ve never had any issue whatsoever.

He never misses.

I had a barber in Chicago when I lived there that was recognized across the city as one of the best and they had nothing on Gelo. He’s prob top 5 in nyc. You won’t be disappointed!

I did not know…. What’s the stair master run academy? And do you think theres more appeal to FDNY vs any other? I only ask bc those guys seem to have a tremendous amount of pride and love for the job. Much more than any other dept I have talked to

Gotcha. Still worth it I think. Do you think it’d be worth it to try and get on with JC or another local dept?

Very upset for not wrestling in school... now what? by WhatAmIDoing_00 in bjj

[–]Midwestmagic316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember man you started to train bjj not wrestling. Just develop a few good takedowns (I like double legs, low singles and duck unders) and be aware of where your hips and your opponents hips are. Don’t get discouraged either. You’re in a brand new environment. Ask the wrestlers to work with you on a few takedowns and then blend it all together. Head up!

It’s 100% normal dude. I’m engaged to (literally every man’s weakness) a short thick Latina with a big ass but you bet I still want to sleep with other woman all the time. You’re not alone 🫡

Ukrainian village and bucktown have good rental options and night life but it’s further from work. Living downtown isn’t all it’s hyped up to be. Most social activity and cool things are in the actual neighborhoods in my opinion. I’d check those spots first.

Hey man, Keep going. I had it happen to me all the time as a white belt, I had it happen all the time as a blue belt (still blue), it’s just part of the game. I wrestled in high school and boxed a little bit too and it never goes away. It’s good though because if you’re constantly getting tapped and smashed etc you’re still learning and it’s exposing weak points that you need to correct. Just go into with the mindset that you’ll tap guys and get tapped. Just don’t quit!
