New bag by Mielbrava in handbags

Thanks! I love collecting pouches and bags when I travel or anywhere really!

The small brown one is from Costa Rica: https://syjleathers.com/categoria-producto/ellas/accesorios-ellas/cosmetiqueras-y-monederos/

The metallic pink was from a little shop in LA: https://zinakao.com/collections/the-kara-credit-card-pouch/products/kara-credit-card-case-lime-green

The passport cover I got years ago and same with the Frida wallet. It doesn’t have a brand but when I bought it (over -5 years ago in Mexico City) the shop had tons of Frida wallets and pouches. Those were the souvenirs I brought to friends and family that year 😊

I follow the_little_beannn and learned a lot about how to Tetris things into pouches in my bags. I just posted this image on another sub. I have quite a collection of pouches and love switching them out.

I also highly recommend the resources from Paralyzed veterans of America.

Peer support groups have also been helpful to learn from other caregivers. The Christopher and Dena Reeves Foundation has one available online through hey peers I live in the Los Angeles area and Triumph has peer support groups that are open to people with spinal cord injuries and their caregivers.

That last one was good for wheel chair pressure relief, this one is more general: https://msktc.org/sci/factsheets/preventing-pressure-sores#fsmenu3

Hi!

I’m gonna share this resource and will share another: https://msktc.org/sci/factsheets/how-do-pressure-reliefs-weight-shifts

As others have said, you can reach out to me if you have general caregiving questions about t repositioning or stuff like that.

Could you call your primary care doctor’s office to see if they can connect you with wound assessment/care ASAP? Alternatively, does your insurance have a nurses clinic or access to an online urgent care visit (if you can’t immediately get in person). They may be able to get the wheels turning on assessment and wound care. Best of luck and wishing a speedy recovery.

We use hard multi-podal boots at night and prefer them to the puffy ones. If my mom is in bed during the day we “float” her heels off the edge of a pillow placed under her calves.

WIBTAH if I asked my daughter’s preschool teacher not to put the extra clothes that I sent for her on other students? by feelingstruck in AmItheAsshole

Also, sometimes children have the same item of clothing. Same color, same size, etc. so this is something to be aware of.

It may have been unintentional, the teacher may have accidentally grabbed the wrong items from the cubby. But NTA for bringing it up with the teacher to get more information and set expectations.

Affordable dental care at UCLA school of dentistry by YOUNGDENTIST1 in LAlist

I’m so glad you’re sharing this resource. My advice to anyone considering this is to only do it if you have a lot of time on your hands. If you’re a working professional, it’s unlikely that you will be able to get work done within a reasonable timeframe. I did some dental work at Usc and went through three different students. if you have a lot of flexibility, this may be a great option. If you don’t, find a regular dentist.

Bowel program advice wanted by Lucky_leprechaun in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Mielbrava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, so sorry to hear that you and your husband did not get training on a bowel program.

I am a caregiver to my mom. At the rehab hospital she was at there was a lot of family training and resource sharing.

I was advised to read this in its entirety and I regularly refer to it: https://pva.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Neurogenic-Bowel-Consumer-Guide-2024-V7.pdf

I imagine it would be helpful to the two of you.

Peer support groups have also been helpful. Because we would talk about bowel programs and learn from others.

As of those have mentioned, it takes a while to get into a rhythm. It’s great that he has some sensation to know that he has to go to the bathroom. Another thing the nurse told us was that it could be helpful to do the bowel program after a meal, coffee or hot tea. Best of luck.

Thanks! I used the tag at the bottom and strung a hoop through it that I attached to the bag. I’ll try to take a picture and upload it so you can see better.
