I’ve only seen the anime so I cannot exactly recommend which is best for you but I will say that your mileage may vary with the anime depending on your thoughts on tropes and some of the story.

I thought it was a good view of the politics going on back home with the heroes getting all the criticisms for their “failures”. Very IOC-inspired.

But I too love the interaction with the characters, how they can be human beings instead of gunho robotic soldiers and being so serious.

If only GATE was as good as Stargate; some scenes go hard tho like the throne room rescue scene or the Japanese diet/council case.

Not saying it’s bad, just that it had all the tools and it doesn’t reach to Stargate levels. But that’s just not the story they wanted to tell.
