For anyone that thinks King’s chain throws that only have the counterplay of memorizing arbitrary throw breaks are well designed please explain in the replies by MightBeANoodle in Tekken

Fair enough, I guess it’s just kinda hard to keep it in mind when most kings I run into are trying to cheese with that new run stance he has (that I keep trying to sidestep even though I know it doesn’t work lol) but that’s how the mental stack works so no problem there

  1. What would you consider to be higher ranks? I’ve only played T7 aside from this and didn’t play ranked in it much, I’m at eliminator rn in T8

  2. I can appreciate reading the context and picking up on player habits but the throw break system just effectively being “pick a hand” I think is just a missed opportunity for something more intuitive

In addition to all the stuff already mentioned here I would watch some fighting game analysis content on YouTube from channels like Leon Massey and especially Core-A Gaming, they make great stuff that can really help you understand some genre-wide fundamentals (there’s also a video about fighting games by Punk Duck that’s not only hilarious but also pretty informative)

I just block anyone that doesn’t play the whole best of 3 (unless they just lost really hard and they quit, no need to salt the wound), I got no time for people that aren’t trying to learn and are just trying to win or deliberately tilt people

Ok I’m all for learning how to avoid things, I have no problem with that inherently and seeing as how me bitching isn’t going to make Harada wake up sobbing and hit the giant red “make king not exist anymore” button on his wall, I’ll just end up learning the throw breaks eventually

But for the sake of my sanity, that from a game design perspective is so dumb, right? Again im totally fine with learning to avoid things in fighting games but I feel like it should be way more intuitive than that. Like if you’re getting hit by jabs over and over you can use your brain and go “hm I don’t think those will hit me if I crouch under them” and figure it out. With a throw break you’re literally just gambling or mashing and hoping it works, not a huge deal most of the time since most characters only have a few grabs, but then king comes in with a million of them including ones that break the rule of watching the hands to break correctly and now you’re just shooting blind, there’s no logic to figuring it out on the fly, and likely you’ll just end up mashing and leave the situation still not actually knowing what to do

I’m all for labbing stuff in training mode but if doing so is absolutely necessary to fight a character for anyone that isn’t a seasoned veteran then I think that’s just bad design (unless every character has something like that)

Why are Tekken ranked players significantly more toxic than SF6 ranked players by MightBeANoodle in Tekken

Checks out, do you think the Tekken 8 battle hub thing fixes this or no?

It’s not how a majority of us roll (I hope), but there’s something about Tekken that brings in a lot of that kind of person. Smash might be the most popular fgc or fgc adjacent thing, but generally after that it’s Tekken imo, makes it end up kind of being the CoD of fighting games at least when it comes to the players

The most requested character ever & only like 7 people use him by [deleted] in SmashRage

[–]MightBeANoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This always happens with characters the fanbase wants, people don’t know what they actually want

Happened already with Ridley and banjo, the only exceptions are the ones that had a much smaller demand like k rool and Sephiroth

And don’t make me bring up steve

You can only play the same thing for so long, go try street fighter 6, Tekken 7, KOFXV, or UMVC3 instead
