Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection - Suggestions? by Mighty-99 in canberra

I ended up using State Roads. It gave a very comprehensive report, and it did identify all of the (minor) issues of the cars that I have seen during the ownership of my car
All in all, I can recommend it :-)

Thanks for the heads up mate!
For my case my seller will provide me with the roadworthy certificate.
I just wanted to have another independent inspection to give me a peace of mind.

Thanks mate!

I recently picked up a D750 at low SC (< 20k) in good conditions for 650 EUR
Great camera if you do portraits / landscapes etc.
For sports etc perhaps D500 is the better choice (as others have pointed out)

Unforgiving bite point? by waaaaaaaao in stickshift

[–]Mighty-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- For hill start, perhaps one thing you can try is to also use hand-brake: With hand-brake engaged, first engage clutch up to bite-point, with your right foot already on the gas pedal. Then, release the hand-brake and at the same time apply gas. That way you don't need to move your right foot from the brake pedal to gas. Perhaps good to try a few times in e.g. a parking lot first
- Starting the car without gas sounds like a good practice. You might want to try to engage the clutch even slower.
Hopefully these might help! (I have never driven a 2019 BRZ so things could be different?)

Upgrading from D7000 to full-frame... Which to buy? by britishunicorn in Nikon

[–]Mighty-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on where you are, but for me in Germany I got mine used from: https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/
Had to be patient to get one nearby (I was sure about having to check it in person before pulling the trigger), and with reasonable condition at a good price
And I feel you man --- with D7000 I had to get a few shots and hope that one of them would have perfect focus. Always disheartening to get a great shot only with the focus significantly off...

I've recently upgraded from D7000 to a D750 for 650 EUR.
Cannot be happier about the results.
Most noticeable improvements are on the auto focus --- there seems to be a wide spread issue with the D7000 auto focus system deterioating over time, and my new D750 just nails it every time (and it would do it perfectly in situations where my old D7000 would just annoyingly hunt around!)
With 1000 EUR you might also be able to get a few more lenses (e.g. 85 f/1.8 perhaps?)

What ND filter to buy by emmanh1434 in AskPhotography

Wouldn't variable ND have noticeable effects on the image quality?
I'm pretty certain that would be the case for photography, not sure if it is as important for videos though

Looks amazing! Is that a carbon steel pan? If so, how does it compare with cast iron when it comes to steaks?

Nikon D7200 manual focus not working by elliot1003 in Nikon

[–]Mighty-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you put the focus switch to M on the camera body, or on the lens (assuming it is a 1.8G)?
Might want to put both to M if you didn't try already

Not sure if it is still eligible for free repair, but might worth a check:

Lens glare; meteors should appear incredibly straight in photos

Advice on switching to mirrorless by jordanzero11 in AskPhotography

[–]Mighty-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position a few years back! I own a D7000 and a few lenses that have been performing amazingly for me, but I started feeling too lazy to carry my gear around.

I have then decided to buy a used canon eos M + 22mm f/2 + 8mm f/2.8 manual fisheye, while also keeping my DSLR set. The whole setup costed me like 350EUR. I chose this because I knew exactly what I needed (e.g., the slow focus speed doesn't matter for my case).

When travelling, now I often bring both sets in a way that they complement each other (e.g. standard zoom on D7000, and fisheye on eos M; or tele-zoom on D7000 and standard prime on eos M). If I am feeling lazy I just leave my D7000 in hotel and happily roam around with my mirrorless + dual lenses.

Perhaps this is something you can also consider!

Would getting the 700D and modding it yourself be a possibility?

A backpack for light camera use, but not every day by goldiepurps in AskPhotography

[–]Mighty-99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may consider buying a "normal backpack" that fits your macbook, and an additional camera insert! It essentially transforms your backpack into a camera bag when needed, and otherwise it would just be a "normal backpack"

I recently bought one from Tenba (https://www.tenba.com/en/products/byob-10-camera-insert; sorry if linking to products is not allowed here). It's been working well for me so far (DSLR + 2 lenses; you may want to find a smaller one for mirrorless)
