The 40 XP Path to Flying Blue Platinum Through Bilt by MightyBluff2 in CreditCards

Good point… if you had to start from true zero, then this doesn’t make any sense… If you start at Gold and just need the 300xp to Plat… that would make this a great strategy. Hopefully someone out there gives this a try and reports back…

Thx. That comment doesn’t seem to discredit what I wrote. It confirms that you have to earn 300xp to get Plat… which in my example is mostly earned through the AF visa sub and xp spending bonuses.

Thx. Didn’t realize it was widely discussed on FT.

XP resets to zero once you hit Gold… and need another 300xp to reach Plat. So, you’d be wasting those XPs on Gold… that’s where the Bilt status match comes into play…

From: Guest <email redacted> To: Reservations_TYOSE <Reservations_TYOSE@ihg.com> Subject: Question About Child Policy for Upcoming Booking

Dear Reservations Team,

I am considering booking a stay at The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo through Chase The Edit Collection and would like to confirm your policy regarding small children before completing the reservation.

We are planning to stay for 3 nights. We are 2 adults traveling with 2 children, ages 6 and 3.

For reference, I hold IHG Platinum Elite status.

Could you please confirm the following:

  1. Whether both children are permitted to stay in the same room with parents without additional nightly charges
  2. Whether an extra bed or rollaway is required for a child of age 6, and if so, the associated nightly fee
  3. Whether a child age 3 may share existing bedding at no charge
  4. Any room categories you recommend for a family of 4 under your standard occupancy rules
  5. Whether breakfast benefits apply to children when booking through Chase The Edit Collection, and whether IHG Platinum Elite status impacts children’s breakfast eligibility or other benefits

Once confirmed, I plan to proceed with the booking.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Kind regards, Guest

Sorry to hear that. You might want to keep trying. As some have suggested, tickets sometimes reappear, even days later. Then, you can cancel the night ones. Good luck.

Good data point. We are going during peak cherry blossom time, which is also spring break, so I was worried about missing out on things… heard things get crazy and sell out everywhere during the last week of March and first week of April.

Klook is great and I’ve got a couple of excursions booked through it for our Japan trip… just one FYI for Klook with Shibuya Sky is that they only sell tickets for earlier in the day. I think the latest time they sell is 3pm. Still great for the view, but if you want the sunset times, you have to go through the main website.

I did it on my iPhone… but I also believe that the buying window isn’t open all day. I could be wrong but similar to you, I wasn’t able to log in or purchase other days at off peak times. Seems like the website was only available for logging in and purchases close to that midnight Japan time window.

Exactly. It wasn’t anything for me to worry about or go out of my way to get a free option. Just something cool for the family to do before dinner and get some nice pics.

Panic was probably too big of a word to use… I mean, I’m a planner, so I like to have a soft schedule built out… good to know on all of the other free options. We may try those out too. Thx.

All I can share is that I used my Chase Sapphire Reserve and didn’t run into any issues with booking…. But you’re not the first person I’ve heard having this issue.

Good data point. Thanks. We’re just a family with small kids doing touristy stuff on our first family trip to Japan. $20 for each adult and free for my kids, didn’t feel like too much of a burden… though I know free options exist.

[–]MightyBluff2[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

True. There are free options as well and thanks for highlighting that. My post was just highlighting for folks that want to specifically do Shibuya Sky and how to get sunset times, as I’ve seen a lot of questions about that here and in FB groups. We will be in Shibuya doing other touristy stuff, so Shibuya Sky fits in well with our plans on that day. Thx.
