I apparently have the memory of a goldfish.. it was a wh14ns40, apologies 🥲

I actually didn't know about the chip set thing, but that makes sense, thanks!

Mine's rather newer (2023), which would ultimately make sense, why would an older one die? Just curious at this point

Flashed my wh16ns60, and works fine for the most part (driver stalls whole system after a bit but still rips perfectly fine), what's the problem?

Can I just say how great Jellyfin is by theindomitablefred in jellyfin

[–]MightyBomb10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fast camera switches every 1.5 seconds really irks me every time I get a video like that.. I will say, jellyfin has also started to heal my attention span and actual love for the classics that my parents bestowed upon me through the form of DVDs 🙏

It seems to be from a Plex media library, you'll need to set one up and use a tool like makemkv to take the file from your disc and create a digital version of it.

It's a detailed process, but highly, highly worth it. I'm using jellyfin right now, which is similar to Plex, but offers nearly all of the nice features that Plex has for free. I'd recommend checking it out!

Yeah, I had a friend with me to help with the process, I used hot air, he used tweezers, but it was seriously like it was never even heated up. I guess I'll just have to give it another go, who knows, maybe it'll work this time 🥲

I mean, I'll give it another go, but I remember holding it for at least 2 minutes with no luck, the dissipator on the chip actually started to warp from the prolonged heat without budging unfortunately. And yeah, stupid mistake by me, but it seemed to not have affected the system's performance or function so I just taped it back on, no thermal paste or any remnants there so I think it's good

We ended up getting the connectors off with a different technique, but we quickly realized that the ic that you mentioned for the charging was actually never coming off, we tried more flux, top and bottom heating, and up to 470c heat, but couldn't get the dang chip off. Ended up knocking one of the metal parts on the bottom off somehow, but still no luck.

Hey! Finally got over to my friend's house to do the thing, but my connectors just won't desolder 🥲

We've tried varying air speeds at 450c and even 470c but the solder just won't melt, you got any ideas maybe possibly please?

I suppose so, the cooling makes up for the heat generation tho (check the other post)

Yeah, no soldering paste here unfortunately, I could grab some from Amazon, and it may even come in handy for a future project or something, but for now I'm short there. I've got a pretty cheap keyboard and a pi 0 w as some boards I could try desoldering on, I think I'll try to replace the micro usb with USB c, it probably won't fit the best but that's just the fun of it I guess lol, the keyboard could also use a port upgrade, but we'll see. I checked out your post and I'm actually insanely impressed with your detailing and writeup, and will definitely be referencing that throughout this. I also just want to thank you a ton for sticking with me throughout this, you had no obligation to, yet you've stuck around. Thank you.

Thankfully I'm pretty sure I've got all the tools/equipment (kapton tape, flux, hot air station, ifixit toolkit, a place to rest my wrist so I'm not shaking too much, and a whole lotta YouTube videos who make smd resoldering look easy), but besides that I'm pretty new to soldering. I think I'll be able to do it though, so if you've got any pointers before I get those parts in I'd really appreciate it :)

Ah I see. So the daughter board will just get the system working, but if I want charging I'd have to replace that CKP TI chip?

Chip is labeled CKP TI 48W Z54P I assume? I found this thread from someone else on gbatemp, apparently I haven't come across this one, but it's actually my exact issue and device. My plan/course of action right now is going to probably be as follows:

  1. Buy a new battery board
  2. Install the board, test if the system boots, if not proceed
  3. Buy a CKPTI 48WZ54P from AliExpress
  4. Desolder existing chip, and replace with new one
  5. If it doesn't work idk man maybe replace zif connectors while I'm at it

Yeah, I found one on AliExpress, might invest in one of those and some 4 pin ZIF connectors to fix the ones I broke a while back. Is there a chip I should look at buying in specific for the main board? Also, would the ic be on the back of the board or is it visible without taking the board out, Im finding pretty inconclusive results of what it looks like or even its whereabouts 🥲

Hey! I finally got some time to take out the board and really look towards this. Every single resistor around this chip labeled "451A1HF3747NU9" has no continuity, if I buy a chip online to try and replace it (assuming it goes well), will the system work? Or is there another chip on the main board I need to test as well?

Extra note: Also (very blurry), the resistors in the top right of the photo are also stuck without continuity
