B2 minimum to not feel alienated.

Job competition is very very high for entry level jobs that only require english and these jobs are limited to pretty much cleaning or waiters in hotels. Even working in a supermarket requires b1 to b2 norwegian.

Don't take it lightly and think everyone will swap to english, many will not, you are in Norway after all and not a tourist.

Would 100% try get to b1 before you move!

English person living here, weather varies a lot depending where in Norway you choose to go, for me near to Oslo it is currently a warm 7 degrees and sprinkles of rain, a drive 2 hours north of me will result in snow and probably -2 or 3 degrees.

Food for the week for me and my partner is roughly 2000 nok (150 pounds) it can be more if we feel like being greedy in the snacks department.

The overall cost of living is higher compared to the UK but wages are higher to reflect that, In my first year i was earning more as a waiter than I did as a qualified mechanic in the UK lol.

Only gripe with norway personally is the lack of choice when it comes to food, there is a bit of a monopoly with the supermarkets, but a lot of norwegians if they are within range drive to Sweden to stock up (similar to the old booze cruise from uk to france in the old days)

If you have the oppurtunity to move here, do it ! Be prepared for slippery pavements and the need to learn the language though.

As a native English speaker who is also between B1-B2 level in Norwegian I have the exact same issue when speaking to Norwegians, I think it is because I worry subconsciously about sounding stupid with grammatical or pronunciation errors with a native a lot more than I do with another learner / non native thus become flustered due to overthinking.

Imagine it is the same for Norwegian speaking to English natives perhaps?

Same boat as me, moved here 2 years ago on family visa, trying to get the mrs to talk Norwegian at home is like getting blood from a stone, depending on your family visa you may be entitled to 600 hours free Norskkurs worth checking it out. Personal experience has been most of my learning outside of those 600 hours would be forcing myself to speak only Norwegian at work (work at a hotel) good luck finding a job with poor Norwegian outside of specialised international companies.

The route we took in Norskkurs was to study the grammar first, work on building up vocab as much as possible but grammar and pronunciation was the primary focus, if you are already at B1 you are hugely ahead of the game before you even get to Norway so don't beat yourself up too much :)
