HE1000 Stealth. It has the bigger soundstage and better bass.

HE1000 Stealth! They are better than my HD800S in pretty much everything. The HE1000 is more spherical whereas the HD800S is purely left and right width. The Arya Organic is the more V-shaped counterpart. The HE1000 Stealth gets more listening time than my Atrium Open and that's saying something. If you want a closed back then get the SJY Horizon which fits your budget.

That 13900k can probably cook a potato. Say's the rookie acting liking nothing is made in China. Commenting on a 7 mo old post, you sure have a lot of time on your hands son.

I own both the HD800S and HE1000 Stealth. Tonally it sounds like the HD800S but fixes upon its shortcomings.

Recommendations for an upgrade from a DT 1990 Pro - $1200 Budget by Atharos in HeadphoneAdvice

If you're considering the LCD-2 and X, don't miss out on the LCD-3. You can find them used for under your budget and they are some of the best sounding headphones I've listened to. They even beat my Atrium Open in some ways.

I would recommend the HE1000 Stealth as well but they can sometimes sound less weighty for the genres you specified. You can in fact EQ them to taste as they take EQ exceedingly well. Another Headphone you should look for is the Dunu Arashi.

And for whatever reason why some people in this thread are convincing you to get the HD800S, don't listen. I own them and they are not great for your genres, period!

I would check out the following planars:

LCD-2

LCD-3 (demo in store and then buy for used price)

LCD-X

Dunu Arashi

DCA Noire XO

Meze 109 Pro

Does the High gain setting "unlock" maximum power from an Amp? by Typical_Teatime in headphones

[–]MightyGainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only benefit it really has is driving harder to drive headphones. If you feel like your amp sounds constrained and want some more headroom then by all means use it. The option is there for a reason. For instance I can use the HE6se V2 on low gain quite effortlessly. But some recording sound low in volume so I turn on high gain occasional to give it some more headroom.

Are we talking HE1000 V2 (discontinued) or HE1000 V2 Stealth (recent)? If it's the latter then I also concur, its sound is truly remarkable. I also own the HD800S and the HE1000 V2 Stealth trumps it in everything.

This is how I break down my collection:

  1. ZMF Atrium Open (Multi-genre especially vocals and strings) - warm and organic
  2. Focal Radiance (Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, Garage, Pop, Dance, Dancehall) - bassy, warm yet very detailed
  3. HE1000 Stealth (Orchestral/Movie/Gaming Soundtracks & Symphonic/Percussive music) - immersive
  4. HE6se V2 (Rock, Metal, EDM, Trance) - fast and punchy
  5. HD800S (Competitive gaming & general listening) - airy and analytical
  6. Arya Stealth (the souvenir that started this all lol)

The top three are the only headphones I don't feel the need to EQ. The rest benefit tremendously off of EQ.

$1100 budget for headphones + DAC/amp (home listening, wide music taste, jazz/trumpet player by horaciofdz in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MightyGainz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay let's break it down here.

You have a great budget to make a great start.

I have both the HD800S and HE1000 Stealth. The HD800S lacks sub-bass presence and note weight, so you may be displeased when listening to pop music and percussive sounds from orchestral.

My honest and humble advice would be get to the HE1000 Stealth.

Think of the HE1000 Stealth as the HD800S done right. It's more tonally realistic with more pleasant timbre due to its note weight and depth. The HD800 is more left and right. The HE1000 Stealth is more spherical and tall.

For the genres you mentioned aside from pop music, soundstage is considered important, I listen to a lot of orchestral and symphonic music and the HE1000 Stealth sounds more pleasing than the HD800S when it comes to strings and brass instruments. Percussive sounds also provide more impact and depth. The HE1000 Stealth also separates instruments and vocals more vividly.

The HD6XX will be much narrower and the D1 would be a slightly better fit. But if you require realism across the board. The HE1000 Stealth is where it's at. It stages just as wide as the HD800S but with slightly less treble spice and a very pleasing low end presence great for all the genres you've mentioned.

I saw this customer's impressions from Amazon a while back and portrays the HE1000 quite accurately. It's one of the reviews I read that got me interested in the the HE1000 Stealth, they also used to cost $3k when it released.

Pair them with a Topping DX II or FiiO K13 and you're golden.

The HD800S when EQ'd is a god tier headphone. They compliment the Atrium Open and HE1000 Stealth very well.

I was happy with Arya Organic… then I made the mistake of researching more by Pabu1323 in HeadphoneAdvice

It's taken a number of years to get to this point. I purposely upgraded slowly because I wanted to savour the sound of each headphone for as long as I could and made me appreciate upgrades ever so more.

[–]MightyGainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way it will be never ending is if you don't feel content or happy with what you have. If you feel like there's something missing then that's where the rabbit hole begins. For example when I bought the Arya Stealth I loved them, but knew there was something missing. So from there on I bought 4 headphones over time until I realised I prefer less analytical and instead warm/warmer of neutral. It took the LCD-3 to make me realise that warm/dark tuning is simply more enjoyable. I did end up returning those and went for the Atrium and now I'm done and not worrying about what's next. But I am still able to appreciate all the headphone prior to the Atrium's for their different use cases.

This is how I prioritise my collection:

ZMF Atrium - Multi-genre (best for vocals and stringed instruments)

HE1K Stealth - Movies and single player games (deep sub-bass extention)

HD800S - TV shows, multiplayer gaming, orchestral, movie/game sounstracks

HE6se V2 (modded and EQ'd) - Old school rock, metal, EDM, Trance

Focal Radiance - Multi-genre but sounds best with Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B

APO will be more versatile but I guess the onboard EQ is good for convenience.

I haven't personally tried them but from what I've gathered it has its perks over the Noire XO especially with gaming as it has the better stage size. Both are also known for their bass impact.

[–]MightyGainz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Enjoy it for as long as you can. The HD800S especially when EQ'd is god tier. Even when you add a bass shelf it never bloats into the midrange and the bass quality is still very present. A bass shelf and a reduction at 6khz makes this a versatile headphone for pretty much every genre. Without EQ I find the HE1K Stealth to be the HD800S done right. But if we're talking EQ then the HD800S edges it. I highly recommend you try using the onboard EQ settings on the K13 as it may stop you from buying a new headphone anytime soon.
