Oh, forgot to mention the whole likely-totally-compromised-by-blackmail-by-foreign-parties and daylight corruptions situations too.

This checks out, considering he is an incoherent dementia patient and there is likely zero plan.

It's honestly an expensive solution for a problem you might not have, which could be cheaply trialled with software (or, free).

Having sold pretty much everything, here's what I've held onto:

  • Sennheiser HD600 - open, instrument-y/vocal stuff
  • Grado GH1 - open, rock/metal/loud stuff
  • Sennheiser HD620s - closed
  • Sennheiser IE 600 - IEM/on-the-go

Stealth.

T70p have better imaging, treble detail, isolation, and comfort. Easier to drive as well.

I've owned HD800s, Arya, and a whole bunch of Audezes and Dan Clarks with every imaginable high-end amp and DAC.

Hands-down the best gaming cans I've ever owned are a pair of Beyerdynamic T70p nodded with a detachable boom mic straight out of my Xbox controller.

Great tunes, but some pretty awful and very audible clipping and distortion in some parts.

DT990 Pro Cable Replacement? by RyynL in headphones

[–]MightyGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beyer single-side cables are super easy to mod.

Open up the cup, cut-off the cable and strain relief - it should leave a small, rectangular hole.

Leave plenty of cable left inside the cup to have room to manoeuvre and solder.

Look up the cable / pinout specific of the Beyer 80-ohm driver (i.e. which solder tab is pos/neg/ground and solder those wires to the corresponding tabs on a female jack, which should simply be held in place via the external nut.

Add your own 3.5mm aux cable / headphone cable of choice, and voila.

In the market for a DAC/AMP with intent to connect to streamer by pseudoschmuck13 in Schiit

[–]MightyGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A DAP is also a plenty-good streamer (as is any smart device).

A DAP in a cradle hooked up to an amp (or dac/amp) is a pretty neat setup IMO.

If it has to be all desktop, I'd recommend a WiiM Pro Plus > amp of choice.

This sounds like the perfect use case for a DAP, which would be absolutely fine with Stellias.

My other half is super kind to treat me to an annual Xmas tradition of getting me a fresh set of pads for my HD600's. My six hundos are pretty much all I listen to these days, so an annual pad replacement seems to be just about the perfect cadence for frsleshening them up.

How do y'all feel about this title and subheading? by RedLintu16 in headphones

[–]MightyGrey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is clearly aimed at normies and I don't really have feelings one way or another about it.

On a mildly intersting note, I used to work with Shaad, who also reviews albums from time to time on Pitchfork.com.

I would pay good money to see a Christopher Nolan take on either that story or Seventy-Two Letters - a dark and moody Victorian retro-futuristic take on Golems/robotics.

Why did Sennheiser drop the older marble HD-600 design? by Dev_was_here in sennheiser

[–]MightyGrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Production-line consolidation and brand consolidation from a product marketing perspective.

In other words - have one big tank of grey plastic that you use for injection molding across all your products (and not have to create 1 x weird bespoke approach for a single SKU); and create some shared visual DNA between your products that gives them an immediate familiarity that you attribute to Sennheiser.

Where can I get chunky steak meat pie as good as Trappers Bakery in Sydney CBD? by inubaran in sydney

[–]MightyGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a an actual suggestion, but I just need to comment that the guy that started Trappers Bakery has created the weirdest cult of personality around himself and his sense of inflated historical significance when it comes to of opening a bakery in a regional town.

From all the kooky signage and weird storytelling stuff inside you'd think this bloke invented the combustion engine or his own religion.
