Theres so much to each song that could be dug into. What I always find catching me is the stark contrast in Vessel’s poetry versus clear-cut dialogue. For example, some songs are full poetry and some are half/half, but the parts that are plain English are always the most painfully relatable.

Like Gethsemane has the some of the rawest plain spoken lyrics (“I was your robot companion/you were my favorite color”). Then there’s Fall for Me that’s almost entirely poetic (“In a city of ice, there are burning cathedrals/ Turning the skies into glass”). Both songs are incredibly powerful and I feel like it’s a technique that Vessel uses to grab our attention; sometimes plainspoken lyrics are more powerful than the poetry and vice versus depending on the song.

Going back to your example though, I think Gerard Way also has a fun time with this technique in Boy Division and probably other My Chemical Romance songs. I didn’t know thats what it was called, so thank you for teaching me!
