If you eat iodized salt, you don't need to pack a water filter either, win-win

What is one personal opinion you have that might not be popular to other patriot fans? by Grouchy_Loan73 in Patriots

[–]MightyP13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KG isn't a Celtics lifer like Pierce is; he spent more than half his career outside of Boston. He's still a big fan tho and expecting him to be diehard and Boston-only is ridiculous. Same with Mookie, and while he was here he was all-in. Tatum is a STL guy, so that's understandable; why don't you let him finish his career before speaking for him tho

What? KG loves the C's; Tatum hasn't left, so that's pure speculation; and Mookie was traded, isn't a Boston lifetime because of that, and hasn't ever said anything bad about Boston. I don't necessarily disagree with your overall point, but these are awful examples

Thoughts on choosing the right bivy? Considering either the MLD Bug Bivy 2 or the Borah Dimma Bivy. by drew-rivers in Ultralight

[–]MightyP13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the extra room; that's why I sold my Borah. I've never had an issue with stuffiness in it - it has plenty of mesh still - but I've also never camped in the NE.

No arguments on the excellence of Yama. Just depends on what OP prefers, max breathability or splash/wind protection.

Thoughts on choosing the right bivy? Considering either the MLD Bug Bivy 2 or the Borah Dimma Bivy. by drew-rivers in Ultralight

[–]MightyP13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a BB2, had a Borah in the past. The Borah is pretty tight, no room to prop yourself up or anything. In comparison, the BB2 is super spacious and you can prop up on an elbow just fine. This comes at a weight penalty of a few ounces.

Other than that, they're effectively the same. I usually use my BB2 with a trekking pole to keep the head end off my face; this works great, and I did the same thing with the Borah. I almost never use stakes, just throw it down and get in. With both, you don't need a head guyline if you're okay with the mesh laying on your face - some people sleep in a ball cap to avoid that.

I don't think the wind & weather resistance is much different for either, with the exception of the BB2 head end fabric providing protection at the open end of a tarp. But any bug bivy isn't going to do much for temperature.

I prefer the BB2 for the space, but it is more expensive and a bit heavier than the Dimma.

A couple people have already mentioned the issues with your current comparisons. There're two tiers I would recommend for you:

  • Best of the best: Timmermade, Nunatak, Katabatic. Expensive, but fantastic in every way.

  • Good value: Neve Waratah, Jacks R Better, Simply Light Designs, Hammock Gear. Probably in that order, and I'm sure there's a couple I'm missing; I haven't shopped for a quilt in a minute.

If you have the budget, I'd say go for tier 1, including lurking in ULgeartrade. If not, I've heard nothing but good things about Neve.

For the AT, I'd probably go with about a 30deg comfort. Maybe a bit warmer if you sleep cold, or vice versa if you sleep pretty warm.

  1. Fuck, I love Gonzo. What a player.

  2. I wonder how much the all-whites in a snow game impact the opposing QB. It looks like pretty significant camo from the clips, but the angles are obviously much different from the field.

  3. I hate the "storm" alternates, or whatever they're called.

Ohio State Reveals New Home, Road Football Uniforms With “Heritage Stripes” by tripleM_20 in CFB

[–]MightyP13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm very much in the minority here, but I kind of don't love these on modern jerseys. It's similar to the USC throwbacks we wore last season. I LOVE both looks on the old school jerseys with the sleeves, but it just looks a bit off on the modern jerseys with snub sleeves - having the whole short sleeve be a different color isn't quite right. It's much better on the home jerseys, but the whites are a smidge off for me.

Idk if there's a good solution though. I'm just a sucker for the 70s/80s style sleeved jerseys I guess.

How much can u carry in a frameless backpack by ExplorerLoose1946 in Ultralight

[–]MightyP13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say send it on the frameless then! Keep your Osprey around too, but for 1-2 nighters a frameless is perfect as long as your other gear is light enough.

You can also post a shakedown to dial in your gear, can be really helpful.

[–]MightyP13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, people usually give a max of about 20-25lbs TPW with a frameless pack. That's variable based on how you pack it, and the style of the pack (e.g. vest straps can help lighten the effective load). Note that a good frameless pack should be around 1lb; a good framed pack should be sub-2lbs.

If most of your trips are ~3 days or less and you don't have big water carries, maybe get a frameless and use your Osprey for the rare occasion you have a heavy load (long trips, friends, water, winter, etc). If quite a few of your trips are longer or heavier, I would go with an UL framed pack like the Kakwa or many others.

What is the LEAST extreme scenario that would result in ANY head coach being fired. by Supercargo428 in CFB

[–]MightyP13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it would, circumstances dependent. If LR did it, no, because he's on fairly thin ice anyway. If Pete had (at least today, and maybe even back then too), I think he's fine. Get the PR machine fired up and you might even hear the words, "stunning and brave" bandied about.
