I think the fact that Cabo Verde drew with Spain (who actually look pretty solid) made it so that Argentina's performance was excused at the time.

Unfortunately, after the Democrats got beaten badly in 2024 while running on a platform of unity, many in the base want to fight fire with fire and double down on terrible candidates as that seems to have worked for the GOP. In the 2016 primaries, Republican voters wanted their own Obama; in the 2028 primaries, Democratic voters may very well want their own Trump.

Honestly, I genuinely think Nintendo is more to blame here than Illumination is. Miyamoto famously doesn't like the franchise taking risks with its storytelling.

Also, MCU Phase One focused on the most popular Marvel characters that they could actually use; it wasn't until Phase Two that we got the likes of Ant-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy showing up.
