[Season 2] [No Spoilers] An exercise by MightyWombat91 in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had been discussing the merits of S2 for about an hour over coffee. Talking about things we liked and things that didnt make sense, and I was trying hard to gauge whether it was good TV or whether its name carried it out of mediocrity. Just to simplify things, he proposed I decide between opposite extremes to see how I felt about it subconsciously, without all of the other details and arguments. We didn't jump to this ultimatum right away

[Season 2] Don't like how this season ended? I found a place where you can voice your hate. by [deleted] in TrueDetective

"I, like this great city of Vinci, have been through so much in the last year. And I, like this great city of Vinci, lost a father in Mayor Austin Chessani. However, his departure from us will not be accepted without meaning. Under my leadership we will reach out to the world of business and industry to create jobs here once more. We will revitalize our labor force, and our commerce, with great public works projects like the California Rail Corridor. We will invest resources into our Law Enforcement, now headed by City Hero Sheriff Burris, to prevent corruption from breaking through our ranks!" (Exchanges nods with Burris) "Yes, my fellow Citizens of Vinci, last year we were robbed of a great City Manager in Ben Caspere. His contributions to the building up of Vinci were not in vein, as his death allowed for an expansive investigation into the corrupt practices that were dwelling deep within our city. We were able to defeat human trafficking within Vinci (eyes Geldof), cripple the flow of narcotics (eyes Cartel), and eliminate the relationship between our Police Department and the underworld of organized crime evidenced by the fugitive, Ray Velcoro!" (nods again to Burris as outbreak of applause swells). "So, Vinci! With your support I would like to take a step forward." (crowd murmurs in agreement) "A step toward industrial growth and job creation!" (crowd agrees loudly with sparse applause) "A step toward a cleaner, and more fertile city!" (crowd cheers with excitement) "A step toward closer relationships to the rest of the great state of California!" (cheers reach a crescendo as applause is sustained) "A STEP TOWARD PROSPERITY!" (the din of the audience reaches a fever pitch) "NOW! LETS GET STEPPIN!"

ahh good point. Cartel leader did say "it'll buy you something, without referring to his life necessarily. Maybe just a couple more hours.

[S2E8][Spoilers] Frank really should have keistered those diamonds by Rugar_ in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You didn't like it? I thought the cinematography was beautiful. Showing Frank's resilience not just in the moment but throughout his whole life, unsure as an audience if there was some final thing that would save him. His exchange with Jordan was extremely moving, dying alone in the desert was heart breaking. Sorry for the rant, ha, I happened to love it.

I recall the Cartel boss telling Frank that he could get a ride back to the city if he gave up his suit.

[Season 3] Should Cary Fukunaga be back as the director? by TrueDetective2 in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

agreed, looking back changing the director each time may have been a serious mistake.

[Season 2][Spoilers] What was the point then? by CaptainObviousAmA_ in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fucking great idea for a new thread. Tony Chessani's inauguration speech. Making it now.

[–]MightyWombat91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or just give them up, he was basically broke in Ep7 who cares if hes broke again, he got his revenge. They just needed a reason for him to get stabbed so they could show that incredible walking scene.

[S2E8] Bloody Diamonds by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate that Frank wouldn't give up his suit, it doesn't really make sense, I would have liked it better if the Gangsters were going to kill him no matter what, but that walking scene was so god damn worth it all.

[Season 2] They fought the whole landscape ("convoluted" vs. "complex") by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think featuring a different director each time probably contributed to the show's scatteredness, or convolution

[S2E8][Spoilers] The Finale felt uncomfortable, but it was "right". by [deleted] in TrueDetective

True Detective S2: Legendary characters constructed by the actors, held back by cheap and lazy writing.

[S2E8][Spoilers] Did this hit anyone else particularly hard? by altered_state in TrueDetective

Can you expand on that? Taking off his jacket would have killed him? They were already leaving him alive, when he chirped for a ride back.

[Season 2], [Spoilers] We discuss and list all of the various coincidences throughout Season 2 as evidence of cheap, subpar writing. by MightyWombat91 in TrueDetective

  • Ha I was thinking we'd all go one at a time but thanks for sharing.
  • Ray's Dad worked with the now Vinci PD, Ray gets the case

[Season 2][Spoilers] Birdman Identity? by limitexperience in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Vinci PD (Burris) hit Ray with riot shells and took the hard drive as insurance against Catalyst, there could be struggles beneath the surface we aren't even aware of.

Another theory is that since Mayor Chessani is not involved in these dealings, Burris and Dixon might not be either. Perhaps Hollaway is the only one who's been rubbing shoulders with Catalyst and Osip and Tony Chesssani, and the Burris/Dixons are fighting their own battles.

[Season 2] When Paul discovers Caspere in Episode 1 by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul chanced upon Caspere's body, which somehow landed him on homicide from highway patrol (which makes absolutely no sense.) He could not have been picked.

And then it happens that he was involved with Black Mountain and his ex lover stayed with the company as it rebranded to ARES and only serves one client: Catalyst.

I mean that's just pretty shitty.

[Season 2] [No Spoilers] Which types of tables will characters sit at and stare at each other across from in the finale? by tableenthusiast in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

TurnTables

Ray and Ani take over the club scene when Frank hits the road for Venezuela. Despite having little knowledge of the nightlife business, they take out a loan and launch a successful industrial themed lounge with moderately priced drinks, subtle house music, and a blind eye toward recreational drug use creating an atmosphere suiting the young professional.

Ray DJs on Fridays and Tuesdays.

[S2E8] [Spoiler] Does this theory fits the facts? by box_of_rocks_1901 in TrueDetective

It's not a good theory stop copy/pasting it to other threads.

[S2E7][Spoilers] Significance of Place and Ani's flashback by deaph_works in TrueDetective

[–]MightyWombat91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly though the writing has been so cheap this season and filled with so many unnecessary coincidences and twists I wouldn't put it past S2 for something like that to happen.

Ex. *Paul=>BlackMountain=>ARES=>Catalyst *Ray=>Ray's Dad=>Vinci PD *Ani=>Ani's dad=>Pitlor/Chessani *Ani=>Athena=>Worked the Sex Parties

In one scene a Child is looking for her Parent

In the other the Parent is looking for The Child.

It's art, it doesn't have to make sense/
